Battery fro my moped to help run lights

Hello, I have a Kinetic TFR Moped, a 2003 model. I bought it used and the small town I live in it is hard to get parts. Plus I am working on a low budget.

The headlight and taillight/break light I have in the moped aren't bright enough due to lack of power.

My moped doesn't have a battery, but my thought was to attach one and use it to help light up my electronics.. i.e. lights and horn. And then install a trickle charger to charge the battery each night.

Any thoughts on how to fix this dim light problem, and/or if what I'm thinking about doing is a good idea? I need help!! :)

Thank you, Sean

You can mount a battery to it but you need to keep in mind that motorbikes that have batteries have an electronics systems that are set up for a battery.

So while you could run the lights off of a battery you would most likely need to run them only from the battery so you are constantly blowing bulbs by giving them too much power. You also have to find a way to charge the battery, either by frankensteining a way for your magneto to do it or to do it manually when you are not riding it.

I don't know much of anything about kinetics but if you can find a better lighting coil that would most likely solve the problem. If the part is available that is.

Thank you!

I know it has a regulator set in the back for the lights..

Do you know what power that magneto should be pushing out? the lights I have are 12v. I think that maybe part of the problem..

Where would there be a lighting coil?

I am told that this moped is molded after the Vespa Ciao, and that a lot of the parts are the same.

Check all your grounds, and connections for rust, moped lights dime when at idle, just how it is, but if you have bad connections it will be worse. something is wrong if they are dim at wot. These will not light like a modern motorcycle or automobile. bear this in mind.

My 1980 Sachs Moped was originally 6Volts and i rewired the whole thing and installed a small 12 Volt Battery, 12V Light bulbs and also a 12V Horn. I disconnected the wire coming out of the motor for the generating Coil. I may have to charge the battery a couple times a year or perhaps buy a Solar Trickle Charger one of these days but no big deal.
