e50 push start... variables to check?

My e50 has no pedals (so it's a push start).

Here is my problem:

The ped idles fine, and when it runs, it runs well no problems Running is not the issue

. The only issue is getting the damn thing started. I've always had problems with this on this ped. I've been able to barely push it while holding the clutch and it'll start. Today I started it 3 or 4 times this way, then it just didn't want to start that way anymore, no matter how fast i push, wether or not i jumped on it and pulled clutch. It's just a nightmare because I never know if it's going to want to stop starting a certain way, and then I mess with it again till it does (and then it will seem like it only starts under those conditions for a while).

I don't recall my 3 shoe springs being in there too tight, but if I loosened them more, that should help right? aka less centrifugal force to get them to engage.

Also with the spark plug out I can watch the hpi magneto spin all day long, nice and fast. As soon as the plug is in, I push fast but the magneto spins soooooooooo slow.

I remember when I first built the bike I could push it with the plug in and the magneto would spin fast as hell. So what's different now?

So what all variable do I need to start checking and or changing to make this starting issue more reliable (so I can actually go somewhere without being afraid of getting stranded for the 0q923871203 time).

thanks!

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

if your magneto is spinning slow, i can think of two possible problems.

tighten your clutch cable. if its not getting enough pull, your clutch may not be engaging.

i'm not sure about the HPI, actually this is probably wrong, because i'm pretty sure there isn't a woodruff key in the HPI. but if it's misaligned, your timing is going to be way off. maybe your timing or your magneto is off.

clutch, cable.

Dude i'll sell you a pedal shaft with pedals. They are pretty but they'd do. just pay shipping.

aren't*

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

third cable.

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

The bike runs, when started and hauls ass. timing is fine with hpi. tuned in excellent. No woodruff key, timing is on the mark. running is not the issue, something clutch side; like it grabbing sometimes, but not wanting to others...does that make sense?

I've tried tightening the clutch cable so far my had hurt from squeezing it previously. Also the back tire literally a skid fest. Are you able to tighten too far?

I understand how it engages and everything.

The only thing slightly weird I did notice was that the way the clutch plate fits into the bell, the little "fingers" were a little worn, and on the inside of where those fingers fit in the bell is worn on both sides (just slightly) from contact. This is the lightened clutch plate, and lightened/welded bell from treats.

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

I originally thought it was slipping, due to a loose cable. though if the tire is skidding, then the clutch is locked in place. the only thing that could help is some sort of decompression. what cylinder/head are you running? this sounds more like a french bike than a puch

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

lolz.

dont be wimp?

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

I guess it'll remain a mystery :(

started today with pushing, whereas if I run and hop on then pull clutch ( i could watch the magneto barely turn all the way till when the bike was slowing down, then turned faster).

I guess ultimately something isn't constant, or I just suck at explaing haha thanks anyways

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

Time to install a decomp lever???? :)

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

Time to instal pedals.

Re: e50 push start... variables to check?

pedals are for chumps.

getting used to push starts makes a man out of you real fast.
