silicon rectifier

Does any one know if I need the silicon rectifier to get my 78 express to spark?

Re: silicon rectifier

wow this is old, hope you've fixed it.

anyway if someone else stumbles across this, i'll answer for them too

answer is no. rectifier convers AC to DC current. It's essentially just a diode.

on the 78 express because it's not CDI, it only uses the rectifier to give steady current to the bulbs & battery, the ignition is separate. so it will run without the rectifier, it just can't charge the battery properly and if you've wired the lights up to run without it, they will burn out quickly.
