clutch problem - anyone with a manual tranny..

I have a 4 speed yamaha.

My bike has a revving, clutch problem i noticed recently.

even in neutral when i rev the bike seems "limited", and when i start in first gear it really struggles, second gear is the same.

if i can make it to third or fourth gear my power band seems fine or normal.

I've inspected and cleaned carb.

I've adjusted the clutch cable (in and out) to just make sure I got it on the right spot.

is this a sign of my clutch going?

clogged exhaust? (ive seen a kind of close problem on my tomos before)

I'm not sure where to start trouble shooting or what.

any ideas would be helpful thanks

Re: clutch problem - anyone with a manual tranny..

if its doing it in neutral then its probably not the trannys fault.

ive found after two clogged exhausts that the best thing to do is to stop speculating and just test it already. take off the exhaust.

tell us about what the engine does at various rpms. that's usually more helpful... i may be wrong but i doubt it, lol

Re: clutch problem - anyone with a manual tranny..

It sounds like the timing is too far advanced.

Re: clutch problem - anyone with a manual tranny..

i was thinking exhaust, i'll try that this weekend.

as for your suggestion silverfox, I haven't messed with the timing.

I've ridden this thing for two years without having to do anything major.
