Batavus Engine Swap

I have the Moped pictured in the far right, the yellow one thats not a top tank, but has the Laura m48. Now picture it as if it has been really neglected for 30 years, thats what mine looks like.

Since I have had problems with my other Batavus rebuilds, mainly lack of parts or information, I am going to swap out the m48 that is currently very seized with another motor. I was asking around and it seemed that there is one that would bolt right into place, but I couldn't remember the exact model number. I believe that it is either a Puch 103? or a Sachs..... something.

If you have any idea of a more popular engine that would have performance parts available and could bold on to the frame with little modification that would Rock.

Thanks

Brett

I think you might be confused and thinking of the Peugeot 103

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

if you are going to scrap the motor can i have a clutch part?

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

its belt drive so you can put any engine you want on it just weld the mounts on to fit the engine your using peugeot motobecane briggs and stratton

i used a 100cc lauson kart engine on a motobecane once

i always wanted to try a liquid cooled outboard engine on a ped like a 10 or 15 hp

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

Mercury Marine Moped! I likes!

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

I'm interested to see what you wind up doing...keep us posted

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

There is no other engine that will bolt on.

Putting a Peugeot engine on a batavus is a hell of a lot of welding and farbrication and not recommended for anyone. There is alot more than welding, there is alignment, space, and clearance issues.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

the cap is right...i've seen a few dudes mod up a puch engine...that way they could benefit from availability. i wonder if a tomos engine could go on there with some work. seeing as how it has the upward angle for the cylinder

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

Ok, since there are not engines that fit I need suggestions for a power source.

Don't get too wacky, so a flux capasator or nuclear power plant is out, but keep in mind that I have access to all the tolls of the trade to do some fab work.

So what would you consider cool, awesome, or completely unnecessary.

I will keep everyone updated with photos of the progress

turbine from one of those small airplaines you control with a remote

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

i thought there was one rare hard to find batavus model that came with a 103 engine.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

yup, the batavus grand prix.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

The Gran Prix came in two models, one with a 103 drive train on it and one with a sachs engine on it, totally different frame, with all the same plastic on it, same thing they did with the Starflight and Regency models, same looking different engines, so weird those dutch

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

its simple shit it would be so easy to put a motobecane or peugeot engine on a batavus

you can put any engine you want on there put a 5hp briggs on it

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

Wondering if you have found a good swap for this?

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

#CrazyWayne™ rocks. #CrazyWayne /

I just use a mix of parts from other mopeds in/on the M48 carters and have a82cc bat blaster.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

Anybody ever do this before with a peugeot 103

the major problem is : the frame mounts are way too close.

if you do manage to mod and weld the mounts an e50 does't have enough room then its a bumpstart or a kickstarter e50 for class. major cutting of the kickstand area req. to fit any straight cyl engine in there.

variated 50v, a pug may fit but then there is the variating bits, maybe a springs or airshocks could be modded to the belt tension adjusters. the alighnment isn't too much of a problrm using the batavus mounts just bend out to fit or mod /make new ones that fit.

unless you have a machine shop , it still is next generation shit.

I built this bike a few years ago. Its a kinrtic subframe with a vespa motor. If I did it again id use a reinforced vespa subframe. I added wheel base and moved tank and seat back a bit.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

i'm betting it never got finished, as this is a 6 year old thread... (edited)

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

ha yea i was going to point that out too

People have done it, it's a chore the easy option is as barney up there suggested, slam a subframe mounted motor in there, then it's just one elded on mount for the front.

hobbit, derbi, vespa

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

also also, i'm not sure but nearly so, that the majestic ankur motors are pretty similar, much more so than the french hung belt motors.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

I like the sub frame. I might end up doing that. Plus it's cheaper since I have an extra grande laying around

UGHHH

dont waste a grande sub on that, slap a kinetic one on there and save the grande for an actual vespa

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

barney gierer /

I think the only way to waste it is to let it sit on a shelf. the kinetic has worked well. I need to take another pic , ivee done some reinforcing to the subframe and its pretty strong now. Also the pivor point on the kinetic fits perfect on the hs50.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

Dirty30 Dillon /

No barney, I was talking to Jesus up there, about to waste his grande frame.

I completely agree that the kinetic subframe is perfect for this, because the rest of the kinetic's are doodoo.

Those vespa subs are hard to come by.

you do realize that, if you put all that effort into the stock m48 engine

it could be a ripper. a puch crank will fit in a m48, you could adapt the case to fit a puch kit and run a third intake port from the case up to the kits intake port and seal it off, then just buy an off the shelf centrifical pulley clutch, add a ripping reedblock.

also the batavus has cast iron cylinders that will overbore to 42mm without losing the transfer walls, they are not really needed cause its case inducted but i like tranfer ports personally. stihl chainsaws have a 42mm ringset incase you do not want to dish out the big bux for a malossi or polini ringset.

But Slew, Vespa power is sexy. And you get dual-var.

Re: Batavus Engine Swap

♣Slew Foot♣ /

vespas are sexy.

it would be like me wearing Jonny Depp as a skin suit.

if it has been re rigged with a 64cc overbore or a kit, who needs variaton?

they are already overgeared, i had no hillclimbing problems with the bat aside from a slipping belt in the rain even when it was'nt kitted just re jetted and exhaust silencer taken out or running an a3 expansion chamber w/a sha.

ripper bats are hardcore porn tho.

Some kids I met the other day said they were capable of fitting a minarelli engine on there just by cutting off the stock mounts on the Bat frame and moving them or something like that. Point is they put on a minarelli.
