not starting, but has spark?

my 1977 puch maxi won't run. it has spark and enough of it for it to run. I pushed in the choke and it fired up and ran for about four seconds, then it just cut off like the kill switch was pushed, not gradually dying down like a stopped up carb or no more gas. I pull the plug out and sprayed some brake cleaner on it and that caught fire, but it won't fire when the plug is on the bike. I can't figure out why it's not running. it has spark, feul, and compression. please help me figure this damn thing out.

oh, and I de-restricted my moped too, but it acted up like this before, but before I did the de-restricting, I would just ride around for about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes before it would start. it's wierd like someone is playing with the on/off switch. thanks

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

hmm......loose wire or your points are not setup right are my first suggestions

Re: not starting, but has spark?

yeah i would say clean your points and check the gap.

not starting, but has spark?

Another thing to check are the wires that run down by the neck. I just had a Free Spirit that had intermittent ignition problems and discovered that the wires were chewed up after being pinched in between the fork and the fork stop. There was enough wire for it to run if the bars were straight but not if you turned them. Worth a check anyway.

Re: not starting, but has spark?

I will check out those when I have the time. I think it's the wires getting pinched in the fork. but I'll check them all out. thanks for all yall's advice.

Re: not starting, but has spark?

My Jawa had an intermittent failing coil. I had spark the whole time though it was weak.

Check to make sure you have a strong blue spark.

If you shoot carb cleaner or starting fluid into the carb will it start??
