ped stopped running and starts sporratically

i was riding going about 38 on flat for 10 or 15 minutes, when all of a sudden i couldnt go more than 32, then 25, then it stopped all together.

the problem that i think this could be is the fact that my oil injection is not working, so i mixed a tank and plugged the oil hole in the manifold with another bolt. it ran fine for a couple of days.

any thoughts?

has it started doing it again? or is it still running fine?

Wow, you smoked the engine, keep us posted.

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

if it's japanese, it's probably not an oil pump problem. i would try another ignition coil/spark plug cap assembly.

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

its a targa

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

and no it wont start and stay running...also, when it starts, it revs real high and THEN dies

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

hows your carb? take it and clean it. and look it over really good

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

Jason Luther /

yeah, your fuel flow is restricted

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

i have a new carb. i did take the manifold off though before putting the new carb on. would the gasket being messed up or out of place be enough to cause this kind of thing?

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

maybe upjetting? but the guy at 1977 said it was a 68 and should be fine for my setup

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

I had this happen to me.

On my Honda PA50, I had an engine fouled with lots of crappy

oil, so bad that my spark plug wouldn't spark unless it was revving

really high.

My solution - I liberally sprayed carb cleaner into the spark plug

hole, put clean gas (40:1 mix) in the tank, and used a new spark plug.

I put the old spark plug in some carb cleaner (didn't look too bad).

I turned off the petcock, started and ran the engine at a low

speed for a minute or so to (a) flush out the carb cleaner and the

crap it pulled out of the engine and (b) empty the carb.

I then turned back on the petcock, and started her back up.

I adjusted the idle to my liking, and then turned her off.

I let it run at idle for about 5 minutes, then cut the engine.

Once I was satisfied that it was idling correctly with the the 'fresh'

spark plug, I switched back in the old spark plug.

A couple of quick revs to clean off the old plug, and it was good as new.

Re: ped stopped running and starts sporratically

Oh - one more thing - make sure you properly tighten your spark plug -

this can also happen if you are leaking compression around your spark

plug.
