What kind of bike is it?

what do you mean by a leak? There is lots of holes in the carb that should not be plugged.

How did you take off the float bowl? Its attached to the carb.

Try using some starter fluid.

thanks for the tip nate, and for nick, Its a 1976 Motobecane Cady. There is a leak in the float, letting gas in, therefore it does not float. The float bowl is attached to the carb, and the float that is supposed to float inside, is what it leaking. I'm sorry I think I confused you by accidentally calling the float, a float bowl.

Ohhhh... i see. floats can cause a lot of problems with fuel flow. if you have another replace it. if not ask around and see if any one has one you can borrow. I still suggest trying some starter fluid to make sure its not a spark issue. once you have that ruled out you can focus on getting the fuel flow issue solved.

cady's were just cheap motobecane mopeds sold at canadian tire for stupid moms that were too scared to go fast...they arent built for speed.

Thanks for the advice Jason. I have a Champion RL86C I believe its the same as an L86C. I have it gapped to 0.018, which is what a Champion Reference Guide on mopedriders.org says. The Cady service manual however, says a different gaps, buyt also for a different plug. Not sure which one I should follow. Anyways Ill probably end up purchasing a whole new carb. AS for the main jet, how far does it have to be screwed in? Theres a whole strait through the jet, and I wonder if that hol, has to line up with the whole in the carb. You proably dont know what Im talking about but thats ok. Ill most likely buy a dellorto with a jet size similar to the Gurtner's 215.

cady carbs are even smaller than a normal motobecane carb, and in order to get a new carb, you need to rig something up to make it work.
