1. What engine do you have? The general came equipped with three, or more different engine configurations.
2. The General has a very complicated wiring scheme, utilising a kill switch on the handle bar as well as a ignition cut out at the fork lock, and probably the "safety feature" of killing spark when a bulb is out. Look into hotwiring whichever engine it is you have, and work from there to get your bike sparking with the wiring harness hooked in.
3. For a minarelli, the above info is correct, grounding the blue wire coming out of the engine will hot wire your bike to spark.
