Problem keeping throttle cable in carb

I have a 1994 Tomos Sprint moped with the A35 engine. The carburetor is mounted on the top of the engine-

I'm having problems keeping the cable in the hole of the carburetor as there is no metal "elbow" to allow the cable to be connected at a curve. The frame is immediately above the carburetor and doesn't allow the cable to go in fully, as a result, the throttle is tight and sticks.

How do I correct this problem? Is there a metal "elbow that I can install? Or am I stuck with this?
