Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

There is a pipe comming from under the carb, it's number 6 on the file on attachment, when it's like this,my suzu start and run, when i put it down some fuel is going out....

What is this? a security when you put too much fuel???

ps: I'm always searching a Fa50 air cleaner (on bike bandit, it's 40$shipping for france...)

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Does it come from the nipple at the very bottom of the carb? That is the overflow tube. When the fuel in the carb gets too high, it exits through this tube. If your fuel is getting high enough to reach the top of this tube (inside), then your float valve is probably not working correctly.

:M

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

I just remembered this drawing that I made when I was having a similar problem. See attachment. When the fuel reaches the top of the overflow stem, it exits through the hole in top of it. Your tube #6 is attached to the drain.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

if that hose is an overflow tube (attached to a nipple on the bottom of the bowl) it may also be a drain tube.

If it's also a drain, there will be a drain screw that can be loosened to drain the bowl, when needed..

If that drain screw is now loose, fuel will drip from the tube even if the carb is not overflowing.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Usually there's an overflow tube _and_ a drain tube. The drain tube is the one that should be closer to the bottom of the float bowl. The overflow tube should not have a screw near it. It's main purpose is to release gas if there's too much in the carburetor. Like Mitch said, it's most likely from a non-functioning float valve. The valve is not closing and letting too much gas into the carburetor. A thorough cleaning would probably help.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

true .. some carbs overflow through a hole near the top outside of the bowl. But this gasoline spills out uncontrolled and gets all over everything .. (also, water and junk can get into this open hole)

my carb combines the two functions.

Overflow goes into the top of the open overflow-tube inside the bowl, and down into the drain and into the drain hose. The hose is routed away from the engine and exhaust.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

its just an overflow

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Joe W had it right:

"if that hose is an overflow tube (attached to a nipple on the bottom of the bowl) it may also be a drain tube.

If it

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Sorry to kijack this thread but it is related in a way.

Any one have a source for larger jets for this carb?

I was going to try one from a Chinafire kit engine.

The threads are the same but I may have to drop the needle down a few notches to adjust for the jet seat height diffrence.

Rusty

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

sorry to hijack your question :) but you evidently own one of these carbs .. nobody so far has expressly said they do.

Does it have a combination drain/overflow tube?

btw, maybe you can mount the Chicom jet in a lathe and thin down the seat?

Or how about cutting off the seat and screwing it in and up to the correct depth .. a touch of LocTite should hold it but i'm not positive.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Good point.

I have here in my hand a Carb for the FA50.

It has a nipple at the bottom of the bowl with a nearby screw for draining the carb in prep for storage I assume.

This nipple is also connected to a vertical brass tube which is in the bowl and serves as a over flow vent.

The jet seat for the needle is close to the same height, off by about 2mm.

So all it should take is to lean out the needle by moving the clip up 2 or 3 notches.

I will give it a try and see what happens.

I have a carb/manifold that has been enlarge with a Dremmel grinder, (not by me) it leans out real bad at just over 20mph due the the small jet, I pull on the choke and get a burst of power.

The carb is clean.

I have a Chinese jet that was drilled with a #50 drill (if I remember correctly,) anyhow it's bigger than the stock jet and I will let you know what happens.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

oh. i didn't explicitly say that i own one of these carbs, i thought that was implied. i do, though, own one, and have worked on it quite a bit. ben, get the carb kit if you can, it's for the best.

rusty, i don't knwo anything about rejetting, but i'm interested in finding out how it goes for you.

:K

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Is the pipe in good place on the photo?

If I understand, I have to checkout if the line isn't open all the time, or if the valve doesn't work properly.

If it's the valve I've to buy a carb repair kit.

Ist it ok?

thanks (the photo is attached whith the first post)

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

i kinda thought you had one.. it was implied and you spoke with authority but i wasn't sure... cant be too sure about anything around here.

so, the needle goes right down into the mainjet on that carb.. i wouldn't know jack about it .. messing with the jet to make it fit might have unforeseen consequences.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Ben,

I looked at the pic.

The rubber hose you have pulled up should point down.

If it wont run with it pointing down then the drain screw is probabily loose and the bowl is not filling with fuel.

The screw faces the other side of the engine (Left as you sit on it) it's near the bottom of the fuel bowl.

I dont think you can reach it with the carb installed.

Have you had the carb off and been fiddleing with it or is this a new ped you are trying to get running.

Rusty

Ps. what position is your fuel valve pointing?

Also there should be a hose running from the brass nipple #5 to the vac. port of the fuel valve.

This cuts off the flow of fuel when the bike is not running.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Hm. On my bike, the drain screw is accessable from the right, not the left, and you can reach it when the carb is on the bike.

Ben - If gas comes out of the tube when it is pointed down:

A. Too much fuel is pouring into your carb

or

B. Your drain screw or the rubber ring on it is deteriorated or loose.

or both.

"A" could be caused by a faulty float valve pin; faulty floats (make sure they float!); or a dirty carb.

If you buy the carb kit, you have a good chance of being able to fix these problems, depending on the condition of your carb. When I got my bike I had to buy a new carb because mine was so bad and then a carb kit too.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Ok thanks

So take a look on the file attached below, the drain srew is 24-25 on the picture?

I'm going to check out on my mop' to see if it's good...

If it good maybe I will buy a carb (to fix the valve...) kit but I' really don't want to dismount the carb, I'm afraid!

I have an other problem: when I accelerate, just to try, i've goog power when I draw up to the middle but when I draw at max the gaz I loose power...

If you understand what i mean I've two theory:

- I haven't already the air cleaner so it disturb the carb

-it's join with the drain problem,it's too much gaz at max....

Thanks!

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

not sure about that one. probably too much air if it is not being restricted by an air filter.

do not be afraid to take apart your carb. you have to clean it. when i got my bike, it was filled with corrosion. it looked like someone had put two spoonfulls of cat litter into it. it's not hard to take off and take apart. just remember where everything goes.

how many kilometers are on the bike?

:M

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Yes the drain screw is #25 on the pic.

Make sure you have all the hoses hooked up correctly.

If you loose power like you describe you MUST clean the carb really really good!

The main jet is probably dirty (#3 & #4).

The whole system is probably dirty.

It's easy to remove the carb and take it apart.

Have a friend help.

It will never run perfectly with out the air box.

Rusty

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Ok, if I take apart my carb, am i obliged to buy the carb kit?

I don't know the kilometers

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Hi Ben,

You do not need to have the rebuild kit.

Take apart, clean and inspect every part.

You will see some obvious dirt.

Put it back together and give it a try.

Please check this.

In your first picture there should be a hose running from the brass nipple #5 to the vac. port of the fuel valve.

This cuts off the flow of fuel when the bike is not running.

Make sure you have all the hoses hooked up correctly.

Rusty

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

for some reason my Suzy will not run with that tube running from the vac. port to the petcock. i had to remove the hose and put plugs at each port. weird.

:M

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Mitch,

Perhaps the diaphram on the petcock is leaking causing a vaccume leak when hooked up.

So do you just turn the petcock to the PRIME position to run?

Rusty

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

yup.

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line

Can you post a pic of this screw? Dumpster find fa50 with fuel constantly dripping from this tube after running

You're asking for a response from a 13.5 year old thread . Good luck .

Which screw are you asking about ?

Re: Suzuki Fa50 unknow fuel line
