loss of performance

Harry Barfield /

i have a 72 maxi that will not accelerate!! wen i first start it up and pull away for the first time it pulls really good but as i use it the acceleration drops off to the extent that i have to give it a 'shove' to get it moving. it takes around 20 seconds to get to speed! also wen i pull up at the lights although it ticks over good wen i rev to get it moveing the revs decrease for a split second. i have the correct fuel mix and a new plug...help!!...thanks for any help u give me

Re: loss of performance

Sounds like fuel starvation. When it is first on choke it runs good but not after the choke comes off, right?

Clean the carb and check the main jet.

i never start the bike with the choke because its never needed it

riding it today something weird happened...i shut of the throttle to take a really sharp turn and when i opened it up again nothing...then the motor kicked in again half second later...u think it could be partially blocked fuel filter?

i have a similar experience on my PC50 now and again, but it usually happens after i've been riding for a while. the first 15 minutes are golden, but sometimes it gets a little "sputtery" after that.

i assumed that i needed to flush out the carb and clean the exhaust but i'll check the fuel jet too.

that is... unless there is another, definite prognosis out there?
