Sachs gearbox problem?

Gabriel C. Drummond-Cole /

I have a Sparta Foxi. It has started making a high pitched whining or squeaking noise when it is being rolled without the engine running. Does this mean the clutch is not disengaging? Do I have to do anything about this?

Re: Sachs gearbox problem?

Check the gearbox oil (if it has an oil filled gearbox). If that is OK, the look somewhere else in the meantime.

When you roll the bike, a number of parts rotate: the wheels, brakes, one or more chains, chain guides, the clutch, and so forth. You need to locate the source of the noise, before you jump to any conclusions.

There is plenty of oil but it smells smoky. The sound seems to be coming from the gearbox.

Re: Sachs gearbox problem?

probably want to change the fluid, and make sure your clutch plates aren't glazed. Plus, make sure everything is still in good shape and no chunks are missing.

If the plates are glazed, rough them up and you should be good.
