Tomos sprint won't move...

My 1994 Tomos Sprint won't engage to drive. It will start fine, first kick, but when I put the kick stand down to drive and give it throttle, it just reves real high and won't go anywhere, it stays running, and when i pull the throttle, it gets gas, but isn't driving. What part is this that I need to replace to get that go?

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

Is the chain on the sprockets? Its a stupid question but the easiest to check.

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

the chain is on the sprockets, the rear tire accelerates when the bike is on the kick stand...

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

did this bike ever run or did you just find or buy it .. and if it ran before, did the trouble happen suddenly or has it gotten worse and worse? It sounds like the centrifugal clutch is not engaging.

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

I had the same problem with a Tomos. On mine it was the front sprocket had stripped splines. it is hard to diagnose because you can't see the shaft spinning on the sprocket because the guard is in the way.

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

I think Joews right sounds like a clutch, unless it isn't making enough power to move the bike.

Re: Tomos sprint won't move...

if it has slowly gotten worse it could be the piston rings!

it probally is a clutch though

good luck!
