Motobecane Chain

The chain on my '78 Motobecane 50V has been coming off while riding down the road. It seems to always happen when I'm topping out my speed (hope that makes sense). The chain also seems rather noisy also (compared to my other 50V). The chain does not seem overly loose so I'm wondering if there's another reason chains come off...thanks.

was this the drive chain or the pedal chain? yoru problem could be that your chain is all strectched out and not happy. if that is the case then get a new one. they run like 15 to 20 from the moped shop here in kzoo. their number is (269)344-1977. how does yoru chain tension look? sit on your bike and touch the chain. you should have about 1 cm of play in the chain with your butt on the seat and the bike off of the stand.

Re: Motobecane Chain

Sorry. I'm referring to the drive chain. I'll check the amount of play in the chain. I didn't realize it was only 1cm. Thanks for info on chains-1977 Mopeds revived my 2 motobecanes for me. They're good guys!
