Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped paint?

Hey, got a cherry 2001 Tomos Targa LX, tearing up streets of Brooklyn, USA. But the side panels near the screws have cracked (crap plastic!) Does anyone know how to repair this? I thought perhaps of glueing a panel patch from the back...Anyone?

Also, Anybody have a shop repair manual for 2001 Tomos LX? I want to do some work, called Tomos they said that a new, more extensive and exPensive one is coming out in 2 months, but I need to work now. If I can make a copy of yours now I'll give you a copy of the new one when it comes and out I buy it.

Last - around my gas cap tiny chips of paint have come off, I'd like to smooth, retouch and put a protector coat on - anybody know where to get matching paint, what to use as a clear protector?

Thanks!

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

I personally would just ditch the plastic but thats me. Most good automotive parts stores will have a variety of good paints and clear coats. You might try a touch up pen it would be easier to apply. I am not sure if the paint will hold up to gasoline very well though.

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

it is cheap plastic. my '05 bullet has few small cracks around the bolt holes too!!@@!!! anger...

i cleaned the plastic really good with alcohol and used a good quality super glue in the crack, then used a clear epoxy for around the ouside of the hole to give it a little for strength. it seems to be holding very well.

i have the soft copy of both the owners manual (.pdf) and the shop manual (.wps). i can email them if you would email me a copy of the new shop manual when it is out?

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

maybe bondo or bondo finish coat

then use a touch up pen or repaint??

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

Bondo is weak, maybe be kitty hair bondo or straight up fiberglass.

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

yea they sell some fiberglass bondo

that stuff is super hard and a pain to sand!

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

At wal-mart and most automotive repair stores they sell small packs of sheet-fiberglass. My suggestion would be to line the INSIDE pannel with this fiberglass and then add the resin. This way, you still have a shiny plastic outside, but it's reinforced with a good layer of fiberglass.

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

Note: Fiberglass is Fun to work with and will get all over you and itch, so if you are going to work with fiberglass get some respiratory, eye,and hand protection.

Re: Cracked Tomos panels/got a manual/chipped pain

Thanks guys, I've decided to use fiberglass behind the cracks, have some left over from my kayak repair kit; my boat's also fiberglass. Found the manual online! I'll get the new one when it's out and will post online for anyone who wants a copy.
