Brake cables or new brake pads??

Hi, when i pull my brakes in they stick, and i have to pull them in harder and harder a couple times to get them back out and if that doesnt work i have to push the metal piece out down near the wheel to get it to click back. Do I need new cables or new brake pads? Thanks, John

take your wheel off, open the hub and take a look at the pads. are they worn? are the springs that hold them together attached right and what not? if something doesnt look right or how you would expect it to them go from there. download a service manual if you dont know what it should look like.

Re: Brake cables or new brake pads??

do what mike said

also try lubeing the cables

Re: Brake cables or new brake pads??

it sounds like that the brake shoes are so worn that the operating arm is driving the cam over center.

First see if the cable is not screwed up. Disassemble the cable from the brake and see if the inner is free to slide back and forth in the outer. If not, lube it up with a cable luber device. If it is free, take your brake apart to see what is wrong inside.

i took it aprt and the cable seemed to be fine, the then checked the shoes and they were pretty worn down. It is most likely the shoes. I went 1900 miles without changing an cables or shoes, do you think its about that time??? Do yo know any places online to get brake pads for cheap, they are 25 each where i usually go to get my moped needs. thanks again

Another thing I would look at is oiling the cam where it passes through the Housing. That is if it doesn't move freely.

1,900 miles isn't a lot of miles. Obviously, I can't inspect the shoes, but I wouldn't expect them to be that worn down after that many miles. Can you post a pic of the pads?
