Stuck gas cap on Motobecane 40T

The gas cap on this 40T I got is stuck hard in the filler hole. It looks like it's made out of white plastic, so I can't imagine that it's rusted in place. I'm reasonably strong, but I cannot budge it, even with a solid grip. Hosed it down with Kroil, and walked away.

Any thoughts on what's making it stick? I really want to preserve the part, since they aren't so easy to find.

Yeah, pretty stupid question, I know. World's an imperfect place, things get stuck in holes all the time.

I'm going to put a tool on it later today. I can already hear the cracking.

When good parts meet bad ends.

have you tried wrapping it in a towel and going at it with a set of vise grips? that should give you enough torque to get it done.

I would use a towel and a set of slip joint(water pump) pliers. Jim

Yeah, it will be used inner tube rubber, and a waterpump pliers.

Re: Stuck gas cap on Motobecane 40T

Got it out. Couple days with the Kroil, and a channel-lock with a piece of inner tube rubber.

It was stuck due to major sticky gunk / rust in the tank. Going to try and save the tank (frame).
