WIERD RUBBING

my puch maxi has been runnign fine for the past 3 months and today when i was on my way home from school, when i slowed down to an idle, there was a metal to metal contact(i think). it was like soemthing was grinding like reeer reeer. thats the best i can describe it. i think it might be the piston rubbing on the cylinder head, or it might be the crank shaft on the journal(im guessing)...

it stopped obruptly once i would have it at idle speed then i would guve it a little gas, but if i would gun it, it woudl run fine as long as i didnt slow down to an idle speed.

i also took the carb off and put some oil down into the cylinder below the piston and on the piston as well.

im taking it into my small engines class tomorrow in hope that one of my teachers will know what the problem is.

if anyone knows what might be the problem, or if you think you might know what to do…any suggestions will help, thank you very much.

Re: WIERD RUBBING

transmition fluid?

Re: WIERD RUBBING

i definetly suggest changing the tranny fluid.

Re: WIERD RUBBING

i thought that too, and i drained the old stuff, and two drops came out. i thought, this was easy to fix, just put some new fluid in and were good to go.

i put the new fluid in, and i couldnt get it to turn over. the clutch catches and i get a solo put, but when i continue to pedal, the clutch doesnt catch/engage.

my neighbor came over trying to find a solution with me, and i am stupmed, i have no idea how the fluid can make the clutch not engage.

ill take any suggestions

thanks

mike

Re: WIERD RUBBING

i have the same sound coming from my Maxi, new tranny fluid won't help because it's not the transmission. unfortunately for you it's the crank bearings behind the piston, we have the exact same problem. i can't fix mine without help cause i'm a clumsy oaf but good luck with yours

Re: WIERD RUBBING

if i run it like it is, will it sieze up and explode or something like that? so will i be able to run it again withthis problem.

and also, when i put the fluid in, the clutch woulnt engage at all. how can i get it runnign agian?

thanks

mike
