Chain Oil

Matt Permahos /

I have a tomos targa lx and the chain is always covered in oil and it sprays my whole wheel and leaks on the ground. I heard that this could be caused by the tranny leaking at the sprocket. I have not oiled my chain in a few months so it cant be that. If you have any ideas that would be great.

Thanks

the chain is oiled from a "weep-hole" in the tranny, behind the chain. Check to make sure your tranny fluid level isn't too high. You may also want to check the tranny seal behind the engine sprocket.

That seal is definitely the culprit. I've had good luck removing it and smearing some clear Permatex around the perimeter of the seal and replacing it.

I also just installed a speed sprocket. Could that be the problem. I tightened it as much as I could and put a block of wood in the wheel. It always leaked oil but it got worse after I installed the sprocket. How tight should the sprocket be.

Thanks
