How do you know your ignition coil is bad?

Thomas Middleditch /

My question is just what my subject is. What are the signs that it needs to be replaced?

Re: How do you know your ignition coil is bad?

Coils rarely go bad. They can go "bad" and still deliver some spark or no spark at all..

They can be diagnosed if you know the coil's electrical specifications.. otherwise the best you can do is check for shorts or open circuits with an ohm meter (multimeter..continuity checker) Check for a good coil ground to the frame.. Examine the plug lead .. and the plug itself.. but.....

What are the symptoms of your ignition problem?
