Batavus Engine Question

What type of engine is on a Starflite Top tank? And did they make different speed versions?

Thanks,

Fred

Don Pflueger /

either a laura m48 or a laura m56 and they came in 20, 25, and 30 mph versions.

Re: Batavus Engine Question

Do you know what the markings are on the engine? How do you tell the difference between the engine types? I do not know much about them as I have never worked on one.

Thanks,

Fred

Re: Batavus Engine Question

Don Pflueger /

the different speeds are determined by carb and intake size and jetting.

Re: Batavus Engine Question

Sounds good! Thanks for the help. I was just unsure if the restricted in the cylinder like the Sachs engines!

Thanks!

Fred

Re: Batavus Engine Question

Correction, slow model Sachs aren't truly restricted in the cylinder, but in the carburator and exhaust.. Sachs are much easier to derestrict than a Batavus.

Re: Batavus Engine Question

Is this true? My Sparta has an a3 cylinder and has the bigger bing and a less restricted pipe I picked up at the BBQ but still only goes about 25mph...

I see they have larger cylinder at the junk yard...but too much for my wallet.
