Pedal crank removal

I finally found a decent eplacement pedal/crank set for my Maxi 1-speed. It's the version where the left crank is welded to the sprocket end and the right crank is held in place with a pin.

I'm having trouble removing the crank pin from the right side.

Is there a trick to this? I can't tell if it screws in or not and I don't find anything about removing cranks in the service manual (odd).

Thanks.

Those pedal crank pins can be difficult to remove. What I do is spray it real good with WD-40 and then unscrew the nut so that the nut is flush with the bottom of the pin. I then repeatedly strike the nut with a mallet. If that doesn't work, you may end up hammering it out with a hammer, but that will most surely run the threads of the pin and you'll need to get a replacement pin.

I'll try that. The pin is actually broken (only 1/2 remains in the slot).

Thanks.

Re: Pedal crank removal

Took two hours and had to hack saw a good chunk of the crank away to remove the pin. It just wouldn't budge. The new pedal/crank/sprocket set is installed and I'm back in business.

When I get one that won't budge, I drill it out.
