honda hobbit, should I take it?

Josha Anderson /

I have been offerd a non running honda hobbit for free. the guy said that it was running less than a year ago, alwees stored covered with gas treatment, etc. I have a couple of questions.

is there anything I should know about this model? how easy are parts to find, I read that there are two models, the PA50 I is red and does 20 mph, and the PA50 II is yellow and does 30 mph, is this true?

he says that he thinks its the coil thats the problume, but I'm not sure he knows what he's talking about, is this a likley problume, can I find a new one? also how would I teast it, crank the engine whale watching for spark?

Re: honda hobbit, should I take it?

have sombody hold a spark plug to the eng, or ground the plug , look for spark

Parts can be kind of hard to find, some more than others

I found everything i needed for my PA50II(30mph) except the rear brake cable.

all i can say is E-bay

if anything take it and part it out for some good cash and buy a Tomos

Re: honda hobbit, should I take it?

Since it is free, you can hardly beat the price.

Its free! Why not take it? If it doesnt spark, it will probably will after you clean the points well.

Re: honda hobbit, should I take it?

They are great, reliable, and built better than any modern moped or scooter. Mine is a 1979 Honda PA50 I with 2399.5 original miles.

Sounds like a no brainer to me, key word "FREE", take it!

Re: honda hobbit, should I take it?

i have one of those and the carbs clog up pretty easy so it wouldnt surprise me if thats the problem. They are tough to get at so he probably has never bothered to clean it

verry helpfull guys, thanks. mostly the concern with taking it is a place to put it, my parents house already has 2 non-working mopeds of mine stored there, they dont really want a third. Im thinking I probably wouldnt get to it untill next summer, If ever, etc. (here in minnesota, winter is most of the year) also I would have to find someone with a truck I can borrow. I guess I will just take it, its in much better shape than my other 2 and I should get rid of them anyway.
