Puch 2sp Jet

Michael Nesson /

I am thinking that I need to change the jet in my carb, as my '80 Puch Maxisport only goes about 25mph. Should I increase the size of the jet or decrease the size?

read the section about jetting.

have you performed a plug chop to find out if your running rich, or lean????

The way I look at a problem is that a 1000 mile engine or 3000 mile engine makes a lot of difference, some take basic adjustments some are needed repairs.. 25mph is about normal. Do U have a 2hp HT engine?

It's a 1.5 engine. It's running great.....smooth shifting, plug is tan, not blackened and has 1200 original miles on it!

Number is on the jet, you could jet up +2 size.

It may yield an increase of perhaps +4 to 5 mph.

Again it depends on the head what you can do, overheating etc. be carefull not to ruin your engine. Maybe someone else can voice an opinion. My MaxiSport is certified as 2hp with pain and lots of screaming it goes 30mph. Rider weight 150lb.

For example I have the jet/speed table for Del'orto SHA 14/12 carb it shows 20 mph #48, 25 mph #50 and 30mph #52 I have nr. 50
