brake cable snap

My brake cable snapped so I fixed it but when I squeeze the brake there is no tension, I mean the part on the wheel does not pull the cable back when I let go. I have it basically so the rear brake is always applied and when I squeeze the level it does stop. It just won't pull the cable so the brake is fully released. Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Did the inner wire snap? or just the outside cover? If the inner wire snapped, you should get a new cable because i don't know if that can be fixed...

Sounds like the inner cable is hanging up inside the casing causing it not to release. The casing may have a bend in it or it is rusty inside. Replace the casing if you already haven't done so.
