FA50 - Stuck Throttle

Candice Rutter /

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I just got a 1989 FA50 which has been sitting for two years. The first service problem I must tackle (other than replacing the old fuel/oil/battery) is that the throttle is stuck. I have a repair manual on order, but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions for repairing this? Should I start by replacing the cable? Is there any simple fix I should try first?

Thanks.

Re: FA50 - Stuck Throttle

Can you determine where it is getting stuck? Is it at the throttle grip? If so, it probably needs lubrication. If it is stuck at the carb, then it could be "frozen" with rust or gummy deposits. In either case, you can disassemble and clean and lubricate. If it is in the cable itself, you probably should replace it with a new or good used cable. Do a check and get back to us.
