I have a 1979 Motobecane Moby which never came with an air filter (as well as the wire-on plate or whatever it was that originally held the air filter on). I tried using a jury rigged filter made from wide-spaced wire mesh and dirt-bike Air Filter foam, but that restricted the airflow far too much and cut my speed in half. I was wondering what I could adapt to use as an air filter, as finding an original is proving difficult?
Air Filter Substitute?
Re: Air Filter Substitute?
I will go outside and snap a pic of my ghetto air filter :)
I used a piece of 1 1/4 inch thick walled rubber tubing.
I attached that to the carb opening with a hose clamp. Then i used a filter and filter cage from a TECUMSEH lawn mower. I got that at a lawn mower place for a couple bucks
The whole thing cost me around 8 dollars.
I get the same speed that i got with out it.
You may have to re adjust your carb a little though
OK- so i cant take a pic right now. My digital camera is M.I.A. at the moment. I will take a pic when i get it back from my mom.
