Reasons a moped won't idle?

The rear wheel of my puch must be spinning for my puch maxi to run. Even if you give it full throttle. But, if you pedal start it off the kickstart it will run up to like 40mph, quick as hell.

It will never idle or even run at a stand still. Why would this be?

Why would the rear wheel have to be turning for this damn moped to run?

okay also there are two wires not connected. A black one and a yellow one, where do these wires go in the wiring harness?

Do you mean you can drive it and accelerate to 40mph real quickly? If so, that is a fast Puch.

If it is the 2-speed, it sounds like maybe the clutch drum is seized to the bronze bushing it rides on. This would keep first gear engaged all the time, and not second gear, and it would also require you to squeeze the starter clutch lever to engage the wheel to the crankshaft in the forward rotataion, which is obviously the direction of pedaling and riding otherwise. This would also allow you to push the bike, with motor off, and not have the crank turn while pushing. This is due to the one-way-rollers in the first gear drive assembly.

If it is a 1-speed, the pieces of information don't quite add up as far as I understand what you are saying.

The wires have nothing to do with the wheel turning problem. Yellow is the headlight wire. The black wire should go to the kill switch. There were some minor wiring color changes through the years and models of Puchs but I think the above should be correct.

I meant kickstand, as in pedaling like a bike then throwing in the clutch

It is a 1 speed

Where does the black wire hook up on the wiring harness?

I don't have an on/off switch, I have a momentary "on" button kill switch , but I don't really need one yet since this moped won't idle. THat is the yellow wire, where should that wire go?

Anything not clear?

I had this problem once the housing needed about 2 oz of fluid after that it would not kill at a stopsign or idling. It was like that the rearwheel was going around fast on the kickstand, maybe just maybe you have the same prblem.

Yellow wire is the head light and black wire is a ground

Now,as to the idle. the back wheel should spin "slowly" ,to adjust the how fast the wheel spins you adjust 2 things

the carb needle and the idle screw

Try this,

Carb needle 1st or 2nd notch from top(less fuel on idle the higher up the needle)

and idle screw 2-1/2 turns out from tight(more air at tight, less air, out/loose) GOOD LUCK

I'm sorry , my mistake, I get your saying,that you need to get pedaling to start on kickstand, instead of 1 or 2 kicks off the pedal,Try to do the opposite of what I just posted,,(spins fast and high idle.) try to adjust idle screw 1st,, turn in tight 1st.then check needle and set at 2nd or 3rd notch from the top.

duh,

it doesn't matter if the idle is so high the slider is a full thorttle. It won't run at a stand still.

I know what these wires are. I'm asking wehre they plug in the wiring harness
