air flow problem

i'm having trouble starting my bike. it starts with the choke on, but as soon as you kick it off it stops. so i taped up some of the air holes so not as much would be running through the filter and it started fine. any suggestions? could a significant amount of air be getting in through somewhere else? is something else obvious it could be? i'm going to get some new gaskets and see if that's the problem, but i figured i'd see what other people thought.

Re: air flow problem

Im just learning about this mopeds but if I had to guess I would say you have trash in the main jet of your carb. You will need to pull carb off and take it apart and clean it. Watch close as you take it apart and make notes if you need too. The main jet is in the bowl of the carb, just above the float. Replace the filter and you should be ready to go.

Re: air flow problem

Doesn't have to be the main jet, but could be. There are other passages in the carb body and emulsion tube that can cause it, but you're doing good,Fourdoor. don-ohio (:^D

Re: air flow problem

Or it could be an air leak if the carb isn't seated properly on the intake manifold. Check for leaks by spraying carb cleaner around suspected places while giving it constant throttle. Bogging = air leak.
