very upsetting news. my moped died. i got a new exhaust for it and i was going 34 down a hill and it died. does any know what could be wrong with it. i dont think that it was supposed to be goling that fast but it was fun and stupid cuz now i dont got a moped, well hopefully not for long

Sounds like it siezed... Did you upjet the carb when you put on the new exhaust? If not it siezed.

no i didnt, how do i know if it seized? and how can i go about fixing it?
Take the spark plug out. Turn the peddles with the motor engaged and se if the piston blows air out the spark plug hole. The piston should go up and down. bruce

Well,
Checking the piston to see if it is siezed is easy..
If we are talking about a Tomos, try to kick start it.. If the pedals are able to go backwards it is not seized.
Any other ped with a decomp. lever Try to start it with lever pulled in... if pedals won't move, it has seized.
Now if it still kicks over but wont start, it must be something else.
But if it has seized.. It is very tricky to fix. If you don't know how, I would sudjest finding profesional help. You have to rehone the cylinder, Install a new piston. Ect.. It is difficult using a hone, so I myself would not try it. See a profesional If it seems to be siezed.

Also don't forget to get a couple sizes bigger jet for the carb.. or it will just happen again.

i dont think that it is seized because i get compression and it goes up and down. what else could it be?
That's good news. I suggest you look at Freds guide and check for a spark and see if you have gas flow. bruce
yea it has gas flow and all that it was doing like 36 down a hill and it has never gone that fast,
Could be the timeing or Spark plug.. Could be any number of things.. Check with Freds Guide in the article section its very informative.

ill try a new spark plug today and see if it is hopefully as simple as that.
Always carry spark plugs. Also check to see if you've got gas in your tank. I know its kool to clean out your ole two-stroke bike and race it in a downhill at max. rpm. (Specially if it won't 4-stroke too much) But truth is that you shouldn't do it anymore. It is okay on NEW and SMALL engines, but old and small engines are so clogged up and rusty that they should now run on a lower maximum rpm than before. Of course you could crudit and hammer the engine. Wear a helmet when the wheel locks up in 50km/t. [50 km/h = 31.07000 mp/h]
it doesnt have spark any more? i took off the cylinder head and it everything look fine, no evidence of seizing. but there is no spark? its not the spark plug but i have no clue what it could be. can any one help?

What test did you do that told you that there was no spark.
i got a new plug, took it out and put it on that wire thing and held it up to the cylinder head and tried to start it, nothing came out.
The points are under a rubber cap on the flywheel. Pry off the cap and see if the points are opening and closing. The point gap is .o15 ". Clean and set the points. Go to Freds guide for info on this. If this does not work you may have to remove the engine, pull the flywheel and look for a short in the magneto or replace the condenser and points. bruce
Check the brake and taillight bulbs are not burnt out.
how do i check if the lights work or not?
If you have a circuit tester put one lead on side the other on bottom of bulb. If you don't ,have a close look with a magnifying glass and see if the filament is broken. I 've heard that the Ciao won't run with a burnt out tail or brake light. bruce

how can i get it to run with out the back light bulb?
Go to a Canadian tire or Auto zone and take the bulb with you. It's 6 volt. If they don't have one a 12 volt will work in a pinch but it won't be very bright. It was the tail light causing the problem, was it ? bruce
Hey Charlie, Mine did the same thing. Going 30 or so down a hill, and it just stopped running. I'm in the same boat. No spark. Frustrating. good luck ben
dude!! check the tail light! it or find out if it is on some stupid circuit, cuz if it is then it is somehting that could blow because with going at high rpms the things that are on that circuit run higher. so something as small as a light that cant take somehting like that would blow, fucking up your whole ped

Charlie........put a bulb in there. Don't ever run without a taillight. It's a signal to cagers that you are in front.
Fix the light so you are always seen. don-ohio
it doesnt work with the bulb in, there is no spark. so the only way i can ride it is with out a tail light. ill just use my hand signals. the arm facing down is slow down right?

Yes.......the left arm in an upward `L' shape with upper arm straight out and forearm upward is a signal for a right turn to allow you to hang onto the throttle. don-ohio
