Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Cornped is doing a rebuild series on flat reed right now!

Well start V but it should be close right?

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Just rebuild the motor

That’s an option and I probably will.

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Full engine rebuild would be your best option

May be a good time/opportunity to explore Derbi power beyond 49cc

It’s really not that hard the manual explains it very well, I haven’t had much luck of the gaskets fitting off treats so might want to cut your own

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

I am rebuilding a Start V right now. If I were you I'd just rebuild that one. Then you know its good. Buying a used bottom end is a gamble. I bought this one and thought it was good but the bottom end seized after 15 miles.

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

euro "world champion" is similar enough to start v.. US variant sport and america kind of, not really..

Great video. Kind of shows me what up up against when I go for mine. Not sure what equipment I can substitute for that hydraulic press since I do t have one of them or access to one. Also I have about the same bearing puller kit shown when you had a choice of three and none of the ears were sized to grab the bearing and you welded it. I have to think on how to do that one and of course I don’t have that bearing puller off the crank tools but I guess I can buy em where you did. Thanks (edited)

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Look up “bread trick” to remove bearing without a blind puller.

I think I posted about it because I actually used it to successfully remove/rebuild an engine. (not my proudest moped moment but it worked!)

😂

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Heat up the cases around the bearing and then smack it on a block of wood works for me

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

yeah, you dont need a press. you can use the crank bearing puller on that shaft.

and if you put the case in an oven at 350 the bearing would fall right out after 5-10 minutes.

Boom

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

StartV is much easier to rebuild since there is basically nothing inside of the motor apart from a crank, couple gears and input and output shaft.

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Be VERY careful pulling the electric start off! There’s spring loaded ball bearings that will fly out and disappear if your not careful. Other than that it’s a walk in the park. Just lit the bolts with some lube/penetrating oil and your Good to go!

This thing is a mess. The electric start side is seized and you can see how high the water was inside the orbital gears parts. Jackerz, all the sprague clutch rollers and springs are not in there. The clutch and variator slid right off the crank shaft. The crank shaft will not budge. This piston and connecting rod will not budge. But I guess I will crack it open next. (edited)

I take back what I said about the Sprague clutch rollers and springs. They are there, but boy are they locked up this flywheel does not move.

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

No, this is not like a start V… the internals are different.. a euro flat reed is similar. This US motor has a different pedal shaft set up. That video is not gonna help much .

Good luck ^_^

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

ope, sorry dude. Good luck.

Re: WTB Derbi Flat Reed

Dude just get the manual it is really helpful
