This round is booked, but I have a ton of parts for these frames. I need to pace myself on these a bit, but I promise it won’t be years before they’re available again.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

No worries Shane... I'm just hoping for one in my secret Santa this year. Ha!

Lol, that particular frame was not without its manufacturing flaws. Secret Santa is for sure my time to clear out some treasures that can’t be sold, but still can be amazing for the right person.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Update:

Rally prep and clean up have me delayed. Should be burning metal again this weekend. Parts are prepped and ready to weld, updates to the jig are done. I just need to clean my disaster of a shed after a lot of rally wrenching.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Update:

I’m at home all day today and tomorrow burning wire. I’m about half way thru the variator side of the frames, should have all the variator sides done this weekend and a couple of the ignition sides.

Next weekend I’m heading to Nashville for the daggers rally, but have the 3rd and 4th off and I’ll be knocking out the remainder of the ignition side frames.

Hoping to get these done and shipped before the wizards rally.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any word on progress? Asking for a friend....

Shane sent some pics to the Dcons group chat the other day. He's making progress and his welds are looking clean. I will shoot him a message here tonight and see if he can give an update in his own words.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Hey guys!

Sorry it’s been a while. My job has me working more than I’d like, and It’s been tough to get time in the shed, but there is slow progress.

I’ve gone thru my first tank of argon, and will likely upsize the tank next time I exchange it so I don’t have to fill as often.

I’ve got the the first half of the frames done, and a couple second halves. Should be tacking the first few frames together this weekend.

I’m going to make final assembly jig using a set of old cases and rear transmission, to make sure everything fits perfectly.

Thanks again to everyone for your patience. These are taking me forever, but they’re going to be pretty great when they’re done.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

That jig looks insanely intense. These things look beautiful.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

It’s actually two sided! I designed the left and right frame jigs to use the same common plate. It saves a decent Amount on material and storage space.

It took a bit of time to get all the holes so they don’t overlap, but in the end it was worth it.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Yay for progress! That jig is rad.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

I really like the updates and transparency in this thread from shane. Love to see it!

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Hello Everyone!

I'm walking back my initial plan of using a spare set of cases and transmission as a weld jig. There isn't enough room once everything is all assembled to get in and weld where I need to.

I took some time this morning and designed a final assembly jig that will allow me a lot more welding access, and adjustment points to fine tune the fit to cases and transmission.

I'm ordering these parts today, and they should be done and on my doorstep by this time next week. In the mean time I am focusing on finishing off the remaining frame sides so I can dive into final assembly on all frames after these jig parts arrive.

I will buy one, Shane.

Richard,

I’ve stopped any more sales until I get thru this first round of frames. Trying to go overwhelm myself. After this round I’m going to try to make one a month and reach out to those interested, so I’ll put you on the list!

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

I tig weld alu and have full setup l, but i m in florida. I built one from steel square tube back in 2012.

Is there a market for these?

I mean, treats flooded the market before I could get any real quantity of these fabricated. The only reason they are affordable now is because the parts are a sunk cost. If you think you can make some, by all means, have at it. Some people still want these, and I’ll make them until I run out of parts. Beyond that, the price will probably make them unaffordable again.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Please put me on the list as well lol

Will do!

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Jig parts arrived and after a bit of prep and extrusion cutting I was able to bolt it all together.

This thing is great, lots of room for activities! Lots of freedom to get everything square and dimensionally accurate.

I should be welding the first one together this weekend, after that, I’ll assemble and make sure everything fits. Make any adjustments and locktite the heck out of this thing.

What made you decide to go inside on the left and on the outside on the right like that?

The transmission mounting faces and engine case mounting faces are not on center. The entire frame jogs to the right to keep the rear wheel inline with the front wheel.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Joshua "Chooch" Pietz /

I would also like to get on the list if possible.

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

October has been an insane month for work and family commitments, but I’m back at it today and wanted to check in.

Last time I was working on these, I found out that the kickstand tabs were just a bit too short. I adjusted them from the original design because the kickstand didn’t sit properly. I have reworked these so they are now perfect, and I’m happy to report there were no other assembly issues!

I have a few frame half’s left to rework, but these should start trickling out the door soon. After the kids are in bed, I’m going to head back out and knock out another frame or two.

Oooooh these things really look beautiful. Pardon me while I drool a bit lol

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

Hell yeah! Definitely looking forward to mine, I just finished up the motor for it. :)

Re: Hobbit Indigan Subframe

First three welded complete!

Gotta clean them up, and make the chain tensioners and pedal shaft bushings now.
