I picked up this 1979 50V this morning. I was hoping for a real nice barn find, but instead I got a Moby with a rotten frame. Everything else on it is good including the long seat (no rips). The 25mph motor has 1248 original miles on it and shows good compression. One side cover has been modified with an access hole for the jury rigged petcock. Windshield is really cool. I’d like to sell it whole, but if no takers, I’ll part it out. I’m located in Powhatan, VA, about 30 minutes from Richmond.

Where is it rotted?

Thanks Chris!

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Pretty slick.....too bad the frame is rotted...and it's a "B" cyl....lots of great parts though, that speed brake, I mean windshield is wild! GLWS!

Look in the center of the frame facing up where the gas tank ends. Worst I've seen on an intact bike. Hate seeing that...

Oddly, the bike was kept in dry storage, so it really surprised me to see that level of rust damage. The rest of the bike is beautiful. Go figure….

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

if you send it to Howard G. Sackett Technical center I could patch it up. and that would increase the value.

Trust me…..the tank/frame is not salvageable, but thanks for the kind offer.

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

If no takers for the whole bike by weeks end, I’ll start parting it out next week. If you want, PM me with your parts requests so I know what parts you want.

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Shame, the 50v frames were always prone to rust but in the last few years seems like about half of the 'barn finds' i see are junk.

if you part it out i could use the full handlebars and controls, all as a big unit. Maybe need the speedo, i need to check to see all of what i'm missing.

It’s looking like I’ll be parting out the Moby. I’ll probably start tearing it down this weekend. I’ll set aside any parts you need. All that stuff you want is in very nice, serviceable condition.

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Send it to him! He has all the wisdom on how to fix mobys. I hear he gets good deals on them…

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Man that windshield is amazing! If you are going to the zeros swap meet. I’d pick it up from there along with the saddle bags. Can’t really justify the shipping on those though to Canada lol.

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Windshield is already spoken for.

no I am just a good welder, that's all

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

The Moby has been parted out. I’ll be posting a separate thread in a day or two for the sale of all the individual parts. There are a lot of nice, serviceable parts from this bike. (edited)

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Are the tool box covers rust and scratch free, I could use a decent set.

Douglas Mackinnon /

I’d like to purchase the rear foot pegs and drive chain. Please contact me to negotiate.

They’re nice, but not show quality if that’s what you’re looking for,

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

dang, rebels have several moby frames you could have picked up for free

Re: Red 1979 Motobecane 50v $200

Mobys are tough, they have a lot of weird parts on them and you end up replacing so much of the bike, its almost impossible to rebuild them for the cost of what someone will pay.

I've got this bikes exact twin in the barn right now, its not a 'bucket list' bike, but i would like to put it right and sell it to someone, but the time and materials is really hard to justify when i have other projects i'm more excited about, or could have a guaranteed payback on.

I have a frame tank from one. Pu in Georgia. I parted it out and can’t get the circlip off one side pedal cranK. Same color.
