WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Kenny Shinneman /

Looking for a pair of rear original "Hydro" style shocks from a Puch Magnum in good shape. If you have a set you're interested in selling pm a photo and price shipped.

Thanks.

I purchased these from Treats hoping they would look "original" with the chrome on top and black body but I just don't like the look.

Anyone have an original set laying around in decent shape they would sell?

Thanks.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Just curious...how can you tell if they're hydro vs the regular ones found on the XK for example?

Someone told me they might have a fitting on the lower part by the mounting eye or maybe have different dimensions (diameter, etc). Myron's doesn't have much info or a clear photo. Also looking for a set to match the hydro fronts I have...

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Side by side it’s very easy to tell. They are just beefier/heavier and the regular ones are kind of like a Maxi.

Still looking. Someone said “they’re a dime a dozen” so surely there’s a set setting around in someone’s basement rusting and collecting dust. I’ll trade you some cash for them. Can use the cash for other moped stuff or some good beverages or whatever.

PM me please.

Thanks

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

The guy that said they are "dime a dozen" is full of shit. He often is.

I was thinking along those lines since I havn’t seen any on B$S in the many years I’ve been on here. Hoping someone might see this and realize they may never use the ones taking up space in the garage and rather have some cash. You never know.

Pretty sure the Hydros have a nut at the bottom right before the lower mounting eye.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

not what your asking for, but I have these and they are the best. Rides so smooth it feels like a flat tire.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Yeah I got a set but I don't know if I want to part with them. They are a lot nicer than most of the stuff you can buy aftermarket

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Cant just measure eye to eye and get some heavy duty shocks from ebay? Most of the universal motorcycle shocks come with different size inserts so you can run a few bolt sizes.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

@Graham, any way you can post a pic of the hydro shocks you have, especially if they have the fitting / nut as people are supposing?

Maybe some folks have these out there that don't realize what they are...

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Doesn’t treats sell the Sebrac or something hydro shocks?

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Kenny Shinneman /

I have measured and purchase a set from treats. They might be hydro don't know. My thing is I'm trying to put this magnum back as stock original as I can.... I like the "original" look. That said I'm willing to pay for a nice set if they're out there..

Thanks

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Just so you know, that bike you posted a pic of is a magnum II, not mkII, and actually came with spring style shocks originally. So a proper original restoration would be similar looking or oem spring shocks which were black with chrome springs.

Christian here is a photo of a Magnum MKII from the photo album (first photo below). I'm assuming it has "hydro" shocks and they look just like my "original" ones (second photo below) just beefier and a better ride I'm told. That's what I'm looking for. I ordered the ones in the photo above from Treats hoping they would somewhat look original but they don't. So I posted on repair asking how to disassemble my original shocks to refurbish the appearance and was suggested to trash them and find a pair of "hydro" from a MKII since they look the same as the originals. I have not found any after market that look like originals so still looking for used set in good condition.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

2 different models. Christian is correct. Kenny look closely the shocks are different. The black boot is paced different the rims are different the model name on the top side cover is different. Good rule of thumb if the rims are spokes you don’t have hydros they look similar but are different

Hello Mark are you talking about the front forks? I'm looking for a pair of rear shocks.

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Long story short you don’t have hydros at all.

Beach Club Nick /

You say you want to keep it original, if that's the case you don't want hydros. The Magnum II, which you have, did not come with hydro rear shocks; the Magnum MK II did

Re: WTB Puch Magnum MKII Original Rear Hydro Shocks

Kenny Shinneman /

Yes Mark and Nick you are both absolutely correct. I have a Magnum II with “non hydro” shocks not a MKII. I understand this. I’ m looking for an “original” replacement set that are visually better shape than mine. And because the 2 styles visually look the same and are both from Puch Magnums it makes sense to look for A Hydro set if they’re out there. I don’t want something that is completely aftermarket is the whole point here. Hope that clarifies my goal.

Still looking.

The one on the right side is a Magnum MKII/UPS/LTD hydraulic shock, and the one on the left is a stock Free Spirit III spring shock (don't have a set of the XK / Magnum II type shocks, I've given them away all the as they are pretty crappy compared to the ones shown). Both are made by Sebac, both have progressive rate coils but there is a big difference in performance between the two. The big tell in appearance is that the hydros have a noticeable thick neck between the eyelets and the shocks.

Hope you find a set of Maggy hydro shocks, of all the options I've tried out they are hands down the best. Not too firm, not too soft - just right for bigger, heavier mopeds.

Schmiddy , Thanks for the visual comparison. Also you can see the nut in the bottom eyelet as someone else mentioned.

Still looking.

Thanks.

Anybody have 1 single laying around? I might have stumbled across 1 that could make a set if it pans out.

Also if someone has a set and is reluctant to sell and would rather trade, for other moped stuff I might have something you're looking for. Pinto tank, Pinto saddle bags Grande rear rack, Grande snowflake set, Hobbit headlight buckets, just to list a few. I have no interest in selling these but would trade for parts I need.,

LMK.

Thanks.
