1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

This is going on craigslist tomorrow.

It's in southern California, and I'd prefer local pick up. I have no idea how to ship a moped. I mean, I do, but it just sounds like a big hassle.

Anyway...

1978 Cuyuna Scorpion, made by NVT (Norton Villiers Triumph) in England with Italian parts, imported to the US by Cuyuna Snowmobiles.

Fake pop-up fiberglass top tank. In good shape, silver repainted and clear coated.

Seat looks great, but it's dried out and started to rip.

Morini mo2 with new piston, rings, and the cylinder is a nice used one from myron's mopeds.

Motor is cleaned, timed, everything works, nothing leaks, two speed shifts, points point and condenser condenses.

Tank is clean, no rust, new pop up cap, new petcock.

Chrome is very good, paint is very good. Polished and waxed.

Clean wiring, new switch, new plug wire, all lights work, horn works, brake light works.

Has new union pedals I put on tonight.

Will have a new black chain on it tomorrow.

Starts easy, shifts, rides good, stops as well as any other 42 year old drum brake stops.

Rebuilt SHA, 14:12.

Bill of sale, last registered in Arizona over 20 years ago.

Moped army member special price is $1400 firm.

Remember, I'm in California. That's cheap for a clean bike here... (edited)

I've always wanted one of these weird ass bikes, too bad you're 2000 miles away. GLWS!

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Any floor boards?

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Nope. It's the only thing missing.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

That pop up tank adds such a cool weird factor i would buy it just for that alone. Glws!

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

I would NOT sell that bike unless I needed the money badly. It's a gem.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Is that kitted or stock?

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Totally stock.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Emil Kniemel /

Damn what a cool bike. The way the seat lifts up with the "tank" in once piece is so hilarious.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Just curious. Is the stock pipe there a Franconi? Looks like one.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Yup. LaFranconi Frankfurter

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

SICK!!!

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

upgrading to union and getting rid of the stabber pedals makes it worth the price tag alone.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

I had one like that I let my friend have temporarily while I was out of state (pawned it essentially, with the promise I would get it back when I moved back) he got it stolen outside of a grocery store in Cambridge MA. Just broke In the reed block and new kit that I bought from Italy and was one of the last ones made and was discontinued. Whoever stole this sweet bike is a dick head and I hope you die in a fiery crash. Just not on the bike

Yeah, just put those on to get it running. All I had at the time. And treatland sent me a Mr T gold chain instead of regular one.

UPDATE: I still have this. It's cleared through the DMV and I'm waiting on the plate and title.

I have one of those in even nicer shape than yours. They are sweet. The pipe is the best part, and mine is kitted and still rips with that pipe which has a good shape and large outlet. I know Cali prices, and you are right there at $1400. Here in Boston, you would not get that, but we all know that prices are very region specific. Good luck!

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Just got the title and plate for this, so she's all nice and legal.

Cool ride.. Some hot Cali blonde will swoop that.

You should be able to find a set of floor boards. The SC1 and SC2 are the same, as are some of the NVT Lance.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

C'mon, get your stimulus checks out, and buy this already. Need room in the garage for my 77 Honda Civic...

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Tri-ped Dave O.D.B. /

I would pay you $100 just for that one panel. That is a very generous offer. FYI that ped is supposed to have the black push in cap, not the chrome snap cap

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Sorry Dave, that panel stays with the bike. Or it's $1350, and comes with a parts bike. :)

When I got it it was missing the gas cap, and I had the snap cap laying around. Don't want to spend any more money just to sell it.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Tri-ped Dave O.D.B. /

So if you are not concerned with it being correct, then why not sell the panel? LOL I gotta try, it is not often you see those. $125 for real cash money, now that is a crazy price. I know but I gotta try. What I think is strange is that people are buying janky Maxis for that same money, while this uber rare "top tank" with scrambler pipe languishes. FYI that pipe performs great. It has a very large outlet and the shape seems to be right.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Blow out sale for moped army members.

$1000 cash, pick up only.

I'm tired of pushing it in and out of my garage when I'm working on stuff.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Tri-ped Dave O.D.B. /

C'mon people, there are so few of these in existence and they are awesome!

Talk about interesting lineage. American snowmobile company puts it's nameplate on an Italian tube frame Morini Franco manufactured in England under license by Norton-Villiers-Triumph.

The only thing missing is the floorboard, but ALL Scorpions used the same one so no worries finding.

Any time I took my SC2X to a rally, it was the talk of the meet. The Polini reed conversion kit squeezes under there, and no pipe ever required, the stock one rips.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

I bet if I spray canned it flat black and put a Puch sticker on it I'd get twice what I'm asking.

Re: 1978 Cuyuna Scorpion "top" tank for sale.

Beach Club Nick /

If I were in CA I would buy it. Unfortunately I can't drive 2400 miles each way to pick it up though.

Your close, get magnum decals for the tank after you flat black it and your good!
