How to get investigated by the FAA really fast

Re: For the price of a moped....

There was a time I would have tried to fly that! :) Super cool if you know what you are doing....also a really good way to die a horrible messy death...

Re: For the price of a moped....

If you keep under 3000 feet and 10 miles away from airports i dont think anyone would notice you.

They would probably notice the big fireball punctuating your time on this planet.

Re: For the price of a moped....

As an engineer I genuinely hope nobody tries to fly this thing ever

Couldn't hurt to just hover a couple feet above the ground cold it?

Re: For the price of a moped....

Until you slide out of ground effect without enough collective/throttle it tips over and a blade digs in and flings you lord knows where...from what I'm told learning to hover is one of the hardest things to master of helicopter flight. That would have to be gone over every nut and bolt before even daring to start it up...even then, super sketch....but god how fun.... :)

Re: For the price of a moped....

Nice. Experimental aircraft, and registered as such, you can fly it as long as you're solo. Also probably a likely coffin.

You would be surprised a lot guys with “experience” will fly the biggest piece of crap without any fear.

My local airport has some janky ass planes. U won’t be caught alive in any of them. Cover in rust after all the under belly paint is removed too. It’s like watching a moped fly lol

Look at the bolts!

hundreds died before the wright brothers in such craft. i think i wouldnt cheap out on air travel lower than red eyes in economy class ;)

Re: For the price of a moped....

That's a prop from a MAD MAX movie! 8)

Re: For the price of a moped....

^ The guy in Mad Max rocked a gyro copter, very different than a helicopter. Gyro-copters are rad as hell, I wish I had the guts to try to learn to fly one, as a younger man I dreamed of owning an ultralight plane, now I'm old and the risk/fun ratio is beyond my desire to fly. :)

I decided to Email him for more information (edited)

With the way older motorcycles & mopeds get quirky or break down i wouldnt trust that thing even if experienced in flying. The only thing certain is... if there was a homemade helicopter forum it would be a ghost town... except for their OT section.

Not a gyro, but you would be dead meat if you tried to fly it.

Re: For the price of a moped....

lol, a great conversation piece.

"Dad died in this."

The cajones on this guy:

Re: For the price of a moped....

When I was up in Alaska, just about everyone flew little bush planes, the one we were using was a 1953 Piper Colt with canvas body. It was in pretty good shape with up to date maintenance, but it would be like going on a trip in a car that old. You would hear about them crashing all the time and people usually came out with pretty minor injuries. It's like a motorcycle, you learn pretty quick how to crash in such a way that you don't die... The dangerous part is getting stuck in the wilderness with a broken leg or something.

This is true! A lot of planes crash in Alaska and a lot of people walk away.

Re: For the price of a moped....

The difference between all planes (even old ass ones) and this thing is that there are redundancies built into the powertrains at every opportunity on planes. This is just kinda cross your fingers you didn't miss anything pre flight and go for it

Re: For the price of a moped....

I pretty much had faa regulations memorized at one time. First off the airspace around major airports is way bigger than 10 miles. Try somewhere around 30 miles.

Second. I wouldn't fly that thing if you paid me. If you want to start off building experimental aircraft then build a paraglider. At least you will be connected to a parachute at all times. Or buy an ultralight kit and practice putting it together (edited)

Re: For the price of a moped....

You might wanna re study your knowledge of FAA regulations. You can probably fly an ultralight aircraft as long as your solo. Experimental aircraft has different regulations.
