If the distributor shaft gets sloppy on yhe 2.2, the timing jumps around giving a nasty off idle hesitation. I went through a bunch of them to finally get one that was really new and tight, the auto parts store brand name "new" ones were really just cleaned up sloppy used ones. With a fresh timing belt, good distributor set a little advanced, vacuum leaks sorted and a new valve cover gasket and sealant, the 2.2 is a dependable peppy motor. You can adjust the downshift switch on the carb just right do get a downshift just when you want it.
I think the 2.5 was a Mitsubishi engine, didnt have any more power than the 2.2.
