I’m looking for a great first moped.

Marin Lynch /

Hey guys! If you haven’t heard from me yet I’m 18 and a senior in high school. I’m good with my hands and learn things quickly, I haven’t worked much on engines but have skill with pretty much any common tool. I’ve really apritiated all the help on this forum! I believe I’m ready to buy my first moped, I really like Tomos, Puch, Minerelli, and some Honda’s(hobbit). I looked at what Larry has for sale (all of which look like great mopeds) and all the Minerelli are either out of my price range, missing title, or just not my style (I don’t think I’ll be buying another one for quite a while so I wanna get one I love). I live in Chester County PA but am willing to drive a good distance to get a good deal. If you guys see any good deals in my area could you let me know? I’ve set up notifications on offer up, letgo, and Craigslist. Thank you guys for all your help!!! I’m posting pics of a moped I found that I need your guys thoughts on in this thread.

He said he will take 350 for it, needs tires and tubes and IMO a new paint job but I could live without that for a while. He’s a member of the forum goes by Madman the MadBraaaper. What are your thoughts?

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life...

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

Honestly it's not bad for the price. For parts availability and dare I say - a more forgiving learning curve - I'd stick to Tomos, Puchs (E50, single speed motors), or a Honda. Others will chime in with their own opinions which is great but ultimately I suggest you get something you can afford, support through repairs here and there, and personally like the look of

Cheers and welcome

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

Save a little more money and buy one of MopedLar's bikes, you will not buy better used, I would buy one of his sight unseen if he were closer, and I needed another. Worth the wait. That way you will be able to register and ride/enjoy it, and learn maintenance as you go, rather than diving into a "project" right off the bat.

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

You really need to buy one of MopedLar’s bikes. That one you are considering will end up costing you more by the time you’re done getting it on the road.

Yeah Larry is your best used moped after that I would go rob K and Hershey PA that's moped central.com he has a gallery he has a bunch of stuff up every time somebody asked me for a moped I refer them to Rob for the last 20 years if you want a cheap project pile of parts PM me I have a bunch of titled frames and boxes of parts we can work you a good deal

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

You can find a Puch or tomos for under $200 all the time. Might need some work though and might not have title. But a Vermont registration is easy to get for $60. I’m in Delco and I see stuff all the time on Craigslist, letgo, OfferUp, and Facebook marketplace.

We can put together a reliable, stock bike for you and deliver for a fee.

We have a few options, check us out on IG: @brooklynmopedsupply and see some of the bikes we have built and sold recently.

Re: I’m looking for a great first moped.

I got a complete (minus carb) maxi for $75. I saw a complete maxi pop up this summer on rural PA Craigslist for $50. They're out there

Thats a lot of rust.

Yup, forks are solid rust, wheels are nappy, frame is very rusty, front brake hub is not mounted correctly, missing air box, . I dont think its worth $350 even running. Pass on that bike.

You can find a Puch or tomos for under $200 all the time.

Not really, they exist but you need to harp craigslist / facebook and call the seller quick.

Nope, thats a magnum. Good luck finding another magnum for cheap. If there are some for less people are blowing up the sellers phone and lining up at this door. Just because you found one for $50 10 years ago doesnt make all magnums worth pennies.

I find them all the time in the greater Philly/ south jersey area.

Jersey is pretty ripe with them.

And the OP is not to far from me. (edited)

Yea maybe by you but here around Philly they pop up often. Granted you might have to do some work.

Picked up from south jersey. (edited)
