WTB: Any moped in running condition

Hello there, I am trying to find a moped in the Bay area, but have been hitting dead end after dead end. Lots of folks on Craigslist selling suspect looking bikes at suspect looking prices. Full disclosure, I am totally new to mopeds (save one experience where I immediately crashed one into a wall) and am looking for something I know will run for a while. I am not looking for the prettiest bike or anything, just something that is reliable that might need entry level tweaking from time to time. If you have one or know a good place to go, please let me know! Thanks!

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

i dont know if id be into the market for a moped if the only time u rode u 'imediately crashed into a wall'

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

We were in an alley and I had no idea what I was doing. After I figured it out I rode that thing all day. Now I got an itch I can't scratch.

get a bike that needs

tires

a seat

lights etc but it runs & idles good

it will be cheap & easy to fix

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

The Columbia on SF bay CL looks good. $250 is a steal for a running bike.

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

I did see that one. I saw they mentioned that the carburettor needs to be rebuilt, so I glanced over it. Like I said, I’m new to mopeds so I don’t know much, but am not afraid to do small repairs. If I were to rebuild the carb, how much work could I expect to have on my hands?

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

Sounds simple enough...

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

If you have a screwdriver and a small crescent wrench, probably 30-45 minutes. tops.

In a month you'll be able to do it blindfolded.

carb rebuild is really easy, but sachs arent the greatest bikes...especially the 504s. if ya get a sachs, get that blue one https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/d/san-jose-1983-sachs-moped/6876835535.html

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

Yeah, that one caught my eye. I was also looking at this one https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/d/oakland-honda-urban-express-deluxe/6876555224.html as it was a bit closer. More expensive, but I wouldn't have to drive all the way out there. Thoughts?

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

Lol buy the express n scratch that itch.

Re: WTB: Any moped in running condition

I do not reccomend that Express. It is not a moped by CA standards and must be registered as a motorcycle. That means you must pay annual registration same as a car. You will not be able to ride that bike in the bike lane legally.
