WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

Thomas Bischoff /

I have a what I believe to be is a 2001 Hero Majestic Panther that's missing the clutch. From what I see online is that the hero majestic engines are basically clones of the Peugeot 102 and 103s so I'm trying to find one of those clutches to buy. If anyone knows otherwise or know if I'm wrong please let me know so I'll be headed in the right direction.

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

Got a pic of the bike and the clutch side of the engine?

Here's the image of the clutch side

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

Unfortunatly for you no Peugeot clutch of any kind will work on what you have sticking out of that motor. That shaft looks very large and very short. It almost appears as though it has some of it cut off.

Here is a 103 shaft. The 102 is the same but shorter.

Head in another direction my friend. Wish I knew more about Heros now. (edited)

Could I just weld one on?

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

You can do anything you hold dear to your heart with the use of a welder. Maybe Jbot will chime in.

Ok so would any old clutch work? Would I need variating or non variating?

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

Yes If your just going to cobble/weld something on there so you can ride the bike I suggest that you measure that shaft stub and weld a go cart clutch on it. Then cover the chain sprocket of the go cart clutch with a welded on automotive pulley.

Ok thank you so much for all your help, is there anything else that you think would be important to know if I go through with the go cart clutch?

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

I take it your doing this so you can have your kid carving a dirt path around the circumference of your house while you sit on the porch/couch with the extension corded living room flat screen perched on the flower planter, watching football.

This will be a death sentence for this motor once you weld on the crank.

Not a bad idea.

I'm just saying.

I'm using it to get to and from school and work. Why would you advise me to do this if it would ruin the motor. Why are trying to make a joke of me

Honestly the whole idea you have is not a good idea. The main reason it is not a good idea is because even if you were able to get the clutch welded to the shaft good enough to stay one the engine still probably won't run. I say this because there is a crankshaft seal on that side of the engine that will melt. Once that melts the crank case won't bbe sealed so the engine won't run. Well now your clutch is welded on so you can't remove it to replace the seal. NOW you are screwed........ Take a pic of the whole bike and post it so I can see if there is another way to possibly help....

This person may be able to help you also

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

You don't need any one to validate your public image on this site. You asked:

Could I just weld one on?

I replied : Yes If your just going to cobble/weld something on there so you can ride the bike I suggest that you measure that shaft stub and weld a go cart clutch on it.

Had I known this was going to be your mode of supplementing your livelihood I would have backed off : Head in another direction my friend. Wish I knew more about Heros now.

Do you even have the means to do the welding?

Alright thanks Steven, here's some pics of it, what type of pictures would be helpful? Let me know and I'll send some more

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

Take some close up photos of the exposed shaft. From your picture it looks like it’s cut off but maybe there’s some weird keyway that we’re not seeing.

From this blog it looks like the hero majestic used Batavus clutch parts but maybe some other clutch too.

If the shaft is indeed cut you might want to start looking for a new engine. welding on a shaft or a clutch sounds pretty advanced and you’re going to need it to be perfectly true or the whole thing could just self destruct. Putting a different engine on is probably the best bet in my opinion. You might need to create new brackets but I think it’s a much safer option than trying to weld something onto the crank.

Jesus... Thanks for the input but why are you posting nude pictures of someone on here????

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

I looked at the shaft more and it's more than likely cut like how you were saying. But as you'll see in my images it's weird because it looks very straight, I feel that if someone had cut it would have been more sloppy. What do you think?

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

There is definitely something wrong with your existing crank on that motor. There is typically a nut of some sort that holds the clutch on, and I see absolutely no threads on the remaining stub of crank left. I'd say that crank is roached.

Not sure if you can use it at this point but i ahve a complete 103 motor that turns over with compression id sell for $60 plus ship. Includes carb, variator, stator, etc...

Re: WTB: Peugeot 102/3 Complete Clutch

I wouldn’t buy that 102 engine if I were you. I don’t believe the hero engine is a Peugeot clone. The 102 engine mounts differently and hangs at a different angle than the hero engine.

You sound like you are willing to do some fab work and welding to get the bike running which is good but if you’re going to make custom mounting and modifications you should get a better engine than that 102 that’s missing the top end and ignition. The 103 is a much better choice
