I want Sachs 505C/D jug or 70cc kit, clutch, maybe piston/crank

Marc Dinsmore /

That's right...I'm crazy enough to tune a Columbia. Suspension stinks. Clutch is suspect. But so far I have a Quich pipe and a Dellorto 15.15 on it and I can get 30mph. That's with the junk 49cc tapered jug. Up from about 25 if I didn't eat that day.

So here's my goal: ride it to work. Then maybe I'll sell it.

So. Who has some nice jugs for me? And if you're going to offer me a used part that's no more than 10% less than new, don't bother offering. I'm from the old school when ebay and used parts on the interwebs were an actual bargain. I'd buy new before used if I'm only saving a few bucks.

What I'd consider:

505C/D (square jug)

Just about any kit that'll fit and run well without porting

Maybe some clutch parts if the price is right

Maybe a D crank with a D jug

Re: I want Sachs 505C/D jug or 70cc kit, clutch, maybe piston/crank

I have all of the above

Ya? 70cc Athena kit? Combien? (Shipped to 15068)

What do you have in way of a clutch? Friction discs? Metal discs? Both? Kit? I haven't taken mine apart yet, but it seems to slip a little much at low speed up a hill. Grabs and lets go at this time, too. Not exactly a priority since it works, but it did sit for 30 years, so I'm sure the friction discs are glazed over pretty good. (edited)

Thought I'd bump this. Hope that's okay.

Some mild porting on the A jug can do wonders.

Topped out at 40, does 35 pretty regularly.

That said, if anyone has a 70cc+ kit, I'm interested.

We need to talk! I assume you matched, correct? (case and jug)

How did you do it? I know nothing...did it mess with timing? Did you just polish or did you actually open the ports up at all?

Re: I want Sachs 505C/D jug or 70cc kit, clutch, maybe piston/crank

I'm also interested in how to measure port timings on a SACHS

Hi. Surely someone has something to offer.

Or those that do will return PM's...

Good luck. I have 2nd o/s jugs with pistons for $450.

that's after I paid $200o plus machining for the kit.

The jugs are difficult to bore since they are uniquely dead end and small.

I get your old school approach, find a D motor.

Woof. I'm not ready to spend $450. I see 70cc kits on several sites for about $250. I think Treats says they have stock, so I'm hoping they're still out there...

Thanks for the encouragement, though! I took her out yesterday, and the difference in just a pipe and carb is encouraging. This could actually be a fun little bike with a kit.
