FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Listing this for a close friend.

I believe it is a Pre 1958 Piaggio Ape. He has owned it for the last 20+years. It was used to take short trips to the local store and back. The last time I heard it run was about 2 weeks ago; it started on the second pull.

It hasn't been driven much in the last 2 years. I know the brakes are dead,

it needs a speedo, etc. It's very solid. Has a fully independent rear suspension.

Here's the Vespa site's info on it.

Yes this is a 3 wheeled Motorcycle that you need a Endorsement for (at least here in MI) If you live in BFE, you can probably put a Triangle on the back of it and ride down the side of the road (for slow moving auto.)

POSSIBLE PARTIAL TRADE for multipul running Peds, a Tomos, a Top Tank, a full on custom of the $1000+ range, etc.

PRICE: $3500

Location: Midland,Mi

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

is that price a typo, my friend?

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

You are seeing correctly. This one is a pre Windshield model (which would be a Pre closed in model.) Which puts it around Early 50's. It has (atleast) a 125cc motor.

Completely restored it'd be mid 7-8k.

This one was used on a flight line to taxi Pilots n gear out to the plane. From there, it was transported to Michigan. The owner only has 1 1/4 legs (bike accident.) and he used it to go from the house to the shop and down the road to get smokes.

I put the Vespa link on it because they are so rare that most people have never seen or heard of one.

Don't let the peeling paint/color of the paint fool ya, it's solid.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

I forgot to mention that it has 3 or 4 gears forward n reverse.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

that thing restored would go upwards of $8000 easy.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Steve Williams /

you tried getting spares for it?,even later apes are a bitch to get parts for, you've no hope getting spares for that.i reckon that it's about $2000 overpriced.you can get a good running later model for 800 pounds here in the uk and you get a roof.i appreciate it's rare but rarity doesn't mean high prices.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Here's what ur not concidering, you have them fs in the UK, they race them there etc.

Try finding another early model in the U.S. fs.

Here, it would bring High 8k completely restored.

It hasn't been cut, it fires up right now and goes down the road.

I already picked up a rear seat frame to turn it into a Rickshaw (since it has 125cc+ motor n a 4spd, it's classified as a motorcycle in the states & can carry multipul people.)

I'm just sayin.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

you would have at least that in the restoration!

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

I picked this one up last fall here in the states for 500.00. What yours is worth will be determined when cash changes hands. Hope you get what you want!

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

I'm thinkin about redoing it in Hot Rod Flat Styles Paint.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

This thing is amazing. I've wanted one for a long time, but an enclosed model. Preferably with the truck bed/open back.

Good luck selling it! Try some scooter forums, too.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Ebay my friend. You'll get noting but lowballers here. Id love to build up a flatbead Ape with a p motor to carry other bikes with. that would be sweet.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

I've already been mocking it up to haul 3 peds on the back(and at the same time, have drop holes, etc in the diamond plate floor as so you can put a drop bench seat in to also haul a passenger, cooler, BBQ Grill, etc.

I'm thinkin Fighter Jet/Flat colors.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Do it man. and build a pipe for it. pipes really wake up those old motors. I just piped my VBB 150 and now she loves wheelies!

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

I knew there'd be the low ballers but I'd take a trade (for some stuff that I'm lookin for, couple Mags, a Cobra, race parts, cash, etc. That way I could end up with something and have some stuff to move to recoupe some of the cash.)

Besides, I have mutipul autos that I'm trying to get rid of at the same time (thus the lack of time for this Gem.)

The pic is one thats on the chopping block now.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Rob @t ATTN! Burrito /

the ape project is listed at the same price one could expect to get 25-35 mopeds in the same condition (or at least 7 in great condition) so some of the offers seem kinda logical i think. might wanna post this on a scooter forum. i'll go ahead and ask how much for that dune buggy though=-=-

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Nice buggy man. I just finished a gold metal flake kellison Super T. Buggies are good times!

If you were closer to me, Id probably offer up a trade for that ape.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

You make watercooled heads ?

5k on the Empi Imp about 25k orig. miles (I'm the 3rd

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

Damn, thats sweet. Empi or meyers will hopefully be my next. Yeah, Ive made a few. From Briggs & Strattons to a Maico 490.

Re: FS: Piaggio Ape 1950's (in MI)

When I do my 80cc swaps, I might look you up for one.

Go with an Imp (for more reasons than I can list.)
