1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/mcy/375964654.html

I am looking for my first moped and found this one in my area. I cannot find much information on this particular model, and as $350 is pushing the top of my budget for a moped, I wanted to find out if anyone here knows anything about these bikes and if this is a fair price, etc. I really do not know much about mopeds, I just need reliable transportation around the city! Thanks!

Alex

Holy shit on a shingle! a 2 speed magnum for 350 bucks?

If i was you id camp on that guys lawn with 350 bucks in my hand.

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

I would tell him to take that 2 speed off and throw it away before I would buy it.

Overall, hell of a deal

One thing I notice that is not mentioned (that seems to be important in other moped listings) is the mileage. How does the mileage on an older bike weigh against its overall condition to you, when you're looking to buy a moped? I will be relying on my moped for transportation on a regular basis.

Thanks for your help!

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

It honestly does not matter, as long as the engine makes no major noises.

You tear it down and rebuild it before you ride it.

Then Maintain it all the time.

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

Why do you suggest tearing the bike down and rebuilding it...?

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

because it's fun!

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

Because then you know 100% that it will last a long time.

I dont fuck around with old bikes and old parts.

I buy em, strip them down, replace all worn parts and ride.

No worries then.

Re: 1979 puch 'motorized bicycle' - fair price?

it seems like if they were just riding it around the pit, it wouldn't have more than a few k on it. like someone said, if it's running now and it sounds solid, you should be good. sounds like a fair price to me! if you want to look up more information, it looks like the model of that one would be puch magnum mkii (mk2). good luck!
