Well this showed up to my house yesterday. Gonna be a fun project. Not like I have enough already but this is almost a dream project I thought I would never get a chance to own. This belonged to my brother inlaw and has been sitting for 30 years. He has one similar to it that he has owned and rode for over 35 years. Needs alot of love but I can't believe the engine turns over. Has been under a truck cap outside for all that time.

Dual port engine, good start! I love the look of those things, but I think it would freak me out to ride, my only memories of them are when I was a kid we took a lot of long distance car trips for vacation, and would often see big groups of harlys out on the interstate, there were always a few of these in the pack. I can't IMAGINE the handling, but can't wait to see what you do with this, I don't care if it takes yrs! :)
Like Stephen says- dual port engine- used from 71 thru 74 (carbureted engine). Can't tell if it has short or tall generator stand. Short stand would mean alternator, tall stand would mean generator. Unless you have it all in boxes!!
I have a few engines here to choose from. It will have an altenator, electronic ignition, even serpentine belt conversion. Also be 1641 since I have some nice mahle order pistons and jugs with no miles on them. Also have a lead on a set of dual solexes. I hope the trans is good as it is a swing axle and all I have for spare trans is irs.
I have a Vw trike they are sweet
I like the ones were they flip the transmission around and put the motor in the front.
They do that with the formula vee race cars. Never seen a trike like that. Here is a pic of my old formula vee. I didn't fit in it so it got sold.

That’s a really neat looking ride . You got me on the engine flipping .. I have forgot completely or missed out some way on that .

The engine on a vw is in the back and trans is in front of it. With the formula vee race car they turn the drive train around so trans is in the back and engine is in front of it. Making it a mid engine. Not sure exactly what they do to the make the trans work in reverse as I never messed with it but it's it's thing.
Seems they gotta flip something some way in the trans for it to work that way .. got me thinking … I might have to research it . I have owned and worked on several bugs but never got in to much more than building baja bugs and using the bus trans and reworking the front spindles for clearance
Nice trike. I owned one just like it about 25-30 years ago. Same springer type front end. I think I still have the title that was never put into my name.

This has been sitting for 35 plus years. The front end on this is a girder. Different than a springer.
The ring gear in the transmission gets flipped to the other side which reverses the direction of the gearbox.
