Cell phone idiot plz help

Totally normal JBOT /

I need a really good new unlocked phone to switch to mint mobile. I’m broke as hell but want the best I can get under $200. Mostly need a good camera. (The iphone 6plus is what I’ve been using and it’s fine)

Anyone here knowledgeable about this shit?

I’ve been living on hand me down iPhones for years but those times are over.

Thanks

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

My last 2 phones gave been Google Pixels. I had a Pixel 1 for 2.5 years, then bought a pixel 3a right when they came out in late 2018 or early 2019. They have great cameras and the "a" series is really damn cheap. The 3a was $300 new, I checked and the current model (5a) is like $450 which sucks, but you can find 4a's for like $200-250 which is cool. I'm not gonna replace my 3a until it literally no longer functions and it still works great and holds a charge well.

Pro tip: when you get a new phone, don't charge it above like 75%. The vast majority of wear on your battery comes from charging the last ~25%. You can triple the life of your phone's battery by doing this. I don't charge my phone overnight (with USB-c it charges from 0-75% in like 30 minutes) and it lasts me all day from 75%

I bought an unlocked phone from these guys

Been using it for two years with no problems.

Mine's a pretty low end t mobile revvl plus, but they have a shit ton of phones.

I have a Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. Think I paid $400 new. Simple, camera meets my needs and pretty durable. You get stuck buying a case from 'under the counter' because its not a trendy phone like a Apple or fancy Galaxy.

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

I got turned on to OnePlus a few years ago, they are a smaller company that makes 'flagship' quality phones but they don't sell through carriers, they are a dual sim gsm phone with all top shelf components but the best part is they run Linux over top of Android by some magic I don't really understand. Even my 2016 OnePlus 3t still gets regular upgrades and is fast and not buggy.

Plus the best part is since it's not tied to some carriers bullshit there are no bloatware or bullshit, you have full control of the phone, only the Chinese government can see and record your every movement.

The 3t I have is about on par with an iphone 6/7, the only thing lacking is not quite as good of camera as a 7, otherwise CPU, ram, all that very good. I bet you could get one under 200. Mines been in the pool and dropped a hundred times, it's a tough phone.

I'm on cricket, att network, 35$ month for 10 gig which I've never exceeded.

That's half half of the equation. The other half is to never go below 20%...

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

Yea that's all true, some of the NCM chemistries and newer batteries don't worry as much about the over/under though, and alot of companies already call 80% "100%" and 20% as "0%" to keep it off the full or empty limits.

I don't worry much about it, but I also can replace my battery for probably 50 bucks

And like, worst case in 3 years maybe I only have 80% of my total battery life usable, but I didnt have to think about intentionally only using 60% of my battery in the 1st place?

Im nmostly justifying this to myself right now cuz Idont wanna have to think about it. Like I know i should exercise more, or drink less, eat less meat - but I don't wanna! just cuz I should..

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

Haha yeah that's kinda my take, I can spend 2 years only using 60% of my battery so that after 2 years it doesn't deplete to 80% capacity?

That's like saying only go 30 mph on your 40mph moped otherwise after 2 years it will only go 35.

I used to charge my phone every night to 100%, use it all day, go to bed and plug it in at 25% or so. Then after 2 years my phone's battery was ass and I couldn't go an entire day without plugging it in. Now I charge it to 75%, use it until it's at like 10% (about 10-12 hours worth of battery for me) and charge back up. I usually plug it in when I start getting ready for bed and by the time I actually get in bed my phone is around 50%. Then the next morning at work I'll plug it in until it's at 75%.

If I know I'm going to be out of the house all day I'll charge to 100%, which lasts about 16-20 hours. I've had this phone for 2-3 years now and the battery still lasts just as long at 100% as it did when I got it.

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

Swappa.com

I buy all my phones used/refurbished from this place.

Re: Cell phone idiot plz help

yea that's valid, if you're using 60% of your battery anyway, better that it be 20-80% instead of 40-100%
