Re: Gas prices?

The US needs to embrace the small turbo petrol engine so the cost of fuel isn't such a ball buster. Not got a lot of torque but decent bhp. European cars typically have 1.0-2.0L engines getting between 40-60 mpg depending on petrol or diesel. The cost here is going up but I never really look. I usually just put €80 in my 2.0 diesel audi A4. I used to get nearly 850km for that even 6 months ago but it's more like 800km now.

Re: Gas prices?

^ I just don't see it happening, we will go electric before we deal with slow small cars, and diesel cars got an awful rap in the '80's, thanks gm, it hangs with us to this day. We also have huge tracts of empty space and love to roar around in them in high powered large cars. I love tiny fuel sipping cars, love my Tercel, but I have to tell you I love my Town Car and F-250 even more, I get stuff on the cheap so I have different cars for different uses. If I were to own a house, I would sign on the line for an electric F-150 today, sell everything but the Town Car and be done buying cars, would keep the Town car for 2 reasons, 1, it's cool as fuck to me and soo comfortable, and 2 the charging infrastructure is not where it needs to be to take long interstate trips, I don't really do that, but I will not be limited by charging stations, it is in the works to remedy this, and once it is, electrics will dominate the US market except for hobbyists.

Re: Gas prices?

Im small cars fan forever. But safety winds up being a dominant one for a lotta folks - they think you can't survive in a smart car when you slam into a giant 7 foot tall 4 ton F250. And maybe thats fair. Also there's a lotta folks who've really bought into the idea that if you might need some feature eventually it's worth almost any cost. Like I might need to move a bed someday so I have to get a 6ft bed pickup truck, even if it's $40,000 more than a small car. I can't have a small car, I might eed to pick up 6 people at a time from the airport. My dog can't fit in a car without her whole 3x6 kennel. wuhateverrr\

But the other piece, small car fans like me are also cheap and cheap small car fans still have decent options in the well-used market

there's shit for margins on small cars, mediocre market, low enthusiasm, low budgets, put a $60,000 pickup in the same spot in the lot and the dealership's making 4x as much off of it for the same effort.

Re: Gas prices?

TRUE `pick-up for haulin' men' get the truck with an 8 foot bed by 6 wide.

Re: Gas prices?

You trying to pick up and haul men?

Or do you mean a true pickup truck, for hauling men in?

Anyway, I dunno why you felt it relevant to gas prices how many men you pick up, or how big your bed is, or whether you like bigger and wider.

Re: Gas prices?

True haulin' men use the bed of a truck as it was intended...............work. People drive em around like toys now.

Re: Gas prices?

Don,

That’s your people driving them like toys. Because god and trump declared it their inalienable rights to pollute and waste. Because muricuh is all about excess and status of the individual.

Crew cab, lifted, chipped, rollin coal. Hellllllyeah!

4’ bed is spotless and not a dent to be found. Prolly get all pissy and wanna fight if someone tossed an empty in there on a trip out.

Yeah, I know those guys.

Re: Gas prices?

I realy don't even look at the price anymore. I just pump and go. It's like a drug addict. Pay what you have to because you need it.

My sentiments exactly. No sense in looking or complaining, price is what it is.

Re: Gas prices?

We just jumped .10 cents, and you hear people grousing about it, but it does not matter all that much unless it goes up in dollar increments. 3.19 is still not bad at all though.

Re: Gas prices?

I think the dude at swifty that filled up my tank was an x porn star... cause when the tank was full he pulled out and sprayed gas all over the car!!

Re: Gas prices?

X for sure. Current porn star would have spit on your hood and slapped the nozzle against your grill, then alternated between filling up your tank and putting it in your tailpipe.

If other attendents saw that, they may have brought more hoses over and done all that shit simultaneously.

Good thing he’s behind on his game eh?

Re: Gas prices?

I had a 96 Impala SS back in the early 2000's when gas hit 5 bucks a gallon in California. No one seems to remember that.

That car ruled, but got about 10mpg in the city with the AC on. Highway it kicked ass, though. It'd get 35+mpg at 100+mph.

Anyway, I remember all the suv drivers were suddenly pulling their old Hondas and Toyotas out of the garage, and traffic went way down.

I was making great money and didn't care at all. (Plus, I had a company truck that I took home, so I didn't have to drive my car everywhere.)

But I remember a day we were going skateboarding, and I had four other guys with me, and we looked like dirty punk kids in this big beast of a car, and I was filling up at Chevron (which usually has the highest prices,) and this suit and tie guy in a new BMW asked me if I could spare a few bucks for gas...

^ That's what happens when you live your live on credit/leases for an "image" and don't own your stuff. 96 SS=Awesome.

Re: Gas prices?

filled up his stepsister's car

Re: Gas prices?

Here in Germany, 95 octane gas is appr. 1.70 Euro per liter, 98 octane gas is about 2.00 Euro per liter now

Re: Gas prices?

Wow, Max! Your politicians sure have you under their thumb! Nearly 8 bucks a US gallon!

Re: Gas prices?

Fuck off, shitbag.

Re: Gas prices?

"freedom" is being able to have the government subsidize excessive oil consumption. Get a big car and drive 45 minutes to work or you're not free. Heck if I lived less than half an hour from my work I might not be able to have a enormous unused lawn to keep my neighbors father away! Or worse, I might have to use public transportation like a poor.

In short, the "american dream" is embarassingly dependant on cheap gas.

Re: Gas prices?

Just paid 3.84 for 93 octane in the Lincoln LS. That's the most I've paid foe Marathon premium in a long while. Biden's fault.

Re: Gas prices?

I hope gas goes to $10 gallon. Everyone has to ride bikes or walk. Fat people get skinny and America can afford national healthcare when all the beetus tubs stop burdening the system.

How bout that?

Re: Gas prices?

Stephen Keller /

^ I would be totally fine with that, as everything I need to live is 2-3 miles from me, most sub 1 mile, I live directly on one bus line, and an easy walk from another. Have two serviceable bicycles, 2 mopeds and one scooter. Also 1 small automobile that turns in 25-30 mpg depending on the season, and my job is 14miles one way, affordable, I could take the bus there, but it's not practical as I would spend over an hr each way, supposing I did not miss a connection, while driving is aprox 15 mins. I could also quit and get a job on a bus line. Only downside to your idea is the price on consumer goods would skyrocket as the price of trucking everything around would go way up. Again a not issue to me as I buy everything but most clothing and food used. What the hell is a "beetus tub"? Never heard that one...

Re: Gas prices?

Dia beetus.

If prices skyrocket, maybe consumerism would take a pause and we’d quit dumping our future into china plastic factories.

I’m just ranting a little. Don’t take me too serious tonight.

If it means keeping the orange Nazi out of office I would pay $20 a gallon.

Re: Gas prices?

Fossil fuels are a finite resource which I want to “conserve” for the future.

The environment is delicate and requires thoughtful management to continue to produce and protect us. I want to conserve it too.

People that use up all of something - liberally and aren’t afraid of rapid developement that could have unforseen consequences…

Well, those people would be the Liberals. I am, however, strictly conservative sir.

^ Agreed!

Re: Gas prices?

Also, for the “Don Ohios” of the world, you can control gas prices by reducing demand.

When an endless convoy of big, American V8s is filling up at the gas station pumps 25-50 gallons at a time, well… that’s a pretty damn HIGH demand.

I am gonna assume I don’t need to explain the economics of that situation.

Reduce demand by driving reasonable commuting vehicles and the price will be lower.

Or do you think prices should not be controlled by the market? Like the government should cap gas prices? Like end capitalism and go communist?
