Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

"Starting a conversation" "communities" < really that one, "sustainable" etc etc et al, why do people feel the need to rename everything? To me it's just some jag off trying to make a name for him/herself by renaming something, there is NOTHING new under the sun, just fucking quit it already! Oh, and quit painting interior walls green! Walls should be white/grey, period! Rant over...

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

You missed "systemic" that is worked to death by the media here. Yes... all of the loser miscreants of society here are just victims of the "systemic" poor treatment by all of us working stiffs that actually pay taxes and try to make a difference... I also concur with the green walls. Don't get me started...LOL.

I have green curtains. Am I a victim of the buzzwords now? I also have a blue wall and like a brownish colour one. (edited)

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

Yes...You have been victimized. Not to worry...It happens to the best of us. A few years back I bought a 1959 home with green bathroom fixtures. There was a 3D shamrock nasty looking toilet seat cover with stripped bolts. A angle grinder fixed that in 20 seconds. Yes I had blue walls and ceiling with dark brown curtains. Good taste is timeless...

I'm really sorry man, you are only a victim if you painted them that way yourself.... curtains can be whatever color, so you are ok there. Who started this ghoulish trend of colored interior walls? White or very light grey, that's IT.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

🙋‍♂️ I'm a victim then, we've got light and dark grey, white, olive, dark green, yellow ochre, bright yellow. Old House built around 1650/1700, taken 8 years to sort out, I've hand forged all the hinges, latches and banister spindles etc. Oh yeah and I don't give a shite😛

As for buzzwords, common sense has to reclassified as uncommon sense because it's sure as shit not common anymore. The moment I see sustainable I assume the opposite it the case.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

I have to agree with Tom on "sustainable". Also the buzzword "green" implies shitty tasting food or worthless cleaning products.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

Jobs are now "roles" for whatever reason that one just grates on me..."maker" "war fighter" for soldier.... "learner" for student I mean wtf? I know it's a small first world problem to have, but this stuff just bugs the f out of me. How does renaming something change/fix it make it different than it is? Give it a rest, earn that corner office with accomplishments not semantics.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

Language evolves. Deal with it or get left in the dust.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

Language changes yes. It's the lack of principals that upset me kinda. But only to a small degree....maybe it's the lack of hope I see?

That being said, i still believe most people are generally good/not horrible so I won't preoccupy myself with the fact the world is changing. I don't like sugar....but bitterness isn't great either.

People I meet still seem cool, the internet people not Soo much. But it's the internet, I could be talking to a kid. Everybody's voice is being heard, that's the only real change

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

This made me think of something kinda weird/funny

My old neighbor in Ohio was single his whole life. Kinda odd guy. His brother lived with him. And one of them had been a crypto analyst. Maybe like code talker stuff during WWII.

Anyways, he was super proud of it. His personalised license plate said “CRYPTO” and the head stones he already has purchased in the local cemetery say crypto too.

Poor guy.

I find that some jargon BS has to be adopted at work so people aren’t confused about your meaning. For example, an email asking for a situation update might come across as: “I’m irritated that you haven’t produced a result yet.” Where saying you: “Wanted to touch base…” means you are calmly inquiring. Or a passive aggressive d-bag? Sometimes hard to tell.

My house is all white and gray at the moment, but my wife wants to paint an accent wall in the bedroom…

Proactive. No brainer.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

It definitely works to name a specific current concept and especially in hashtag world helps group like concepts, but it is frustrating when buzzwords get overused. Then they lose potency and impact. like there's a healthy medium - buzzwords are totally valuable to a point beyond which the value's thrashed

Yeah, a change in lexicon is inevitable. Either keep up or just get left behind.

Also, if my whole house was grey and white walls, I'd climb up to the roof and end it all.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

I could accept a change IF it was to name something "altogether" new, a new tech or invention, but just for random no reason throw a new name on something, just unnecessary. The overuse is as bad if not worse than the random re-naming. Colored walls make me feel like I'm in a nut house or a carnival "fun house", no thank you.

Delicate snowflake...

Agreeably the best buzzword of all time. It put a name to a new thing. "YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE I BEEN LOU" should've made a soundbyte where as slide slide and his name was Robert Paulson and Manboobs stuck. Fight Club and Brad Pitt. Brad coined the term off script.

Who the fuck even uses the word woke?

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

Blaine- The artist formerly known as Plumber Crack "(OFMC)" /

….and “accent” wall colors is simply when you didnt get enough paint for the entire room, and you’ve got some paint left over from another room.

Wahlah - instant accent wall.

Re: Anyone besides myself sick to death of "Buzzwords:?

♣Slew Foot♣ /

So is it slang? Or jargon nothing new really. But the delicate snowflake is more conceptional as it's self explanatory and a term describing a trend toward pc 1984ism.

So woke kinda falls here. But who coined it when and what was the media?

This thread makes be think that it’s inevitable that people just keep get older, more intolerant, less adaptable, and basically turn into Don Ohio.

You are not entirely wrong on this, but after decades of the same issues never being solved, watching the next gen of shiny happy young people think they solved it (knowing the same thing was tried before and failed) it gets tiresome, and sad knowing nothing is really going to change, and you quit having the same enthusiasm. The internet has been a game changer in the way people go through life to be sure, like up there with the wheel and fire, but like those two things all the good brought just as much bad, it's just the way people "are" and that will never change. If you were never an idealist you just gloat, and if you were you get sad/depressed angry when you really come to see just how it really is, that all the energy you spent trying to change the world is just dust in the wind, and knowing the young will never believe you, as you never believed those ahead of you.
