You are not entirely wrong on this, but after decades of the same issues never being solved, watching the next gen of shiny happy young people think they solved it (knowing the same thing was tried before and failed) it gets tiresome, and sad knowing nothing is really going to change, and you quit having the same enthusiasm. The internet has been a game changer in the way people go through life to be sure, like up there with the wheel and fire, but like those two things all the good brought just as much bad, it's just the way people "are" and that will never change. If you were never an idealist you just gloat, and if you were you get sad/depressed angry when you really come to see just how it really is, that all the energy you spent trying to change the world is just dust in the wind, and knowing the young will never believe you, as you never believed those ahead of you.
