What a way to start retirement !

I'm officially RETIRED! To start it off I planned on something fun! This Thursday I'm having rotator cuff surgery on right side. I had the left side done little over 7 years ago. This time it's my dominant arm, so we will see how that goes. I have been practicing using my left more, but it's really hard.

Congrats! Retirement is awesome as long as you keep busy with your family and hobbies.

Thanks, no problem with keeping busy. That's the plan after I'm done recuperating from surgery.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Congrats guy. Good luck with that surgery, too. I know it can be a bear to get back into wrenching after it.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Congratulations, and best of luck with the surgery!

Congrats! Enjoy it, you earned it!

Just don't become a couch potato and you will be fine!

Not to pry, but what would cause multiple rotator cuff injuries? I strained one once, not fun at all. Good luck with retirement. I think about it all the time, I'm 62, but as I'm a pessimist I'm pretty sure I'll die before I ever get to relax, lol

In my case, repetitive overhead activity. Wrenching on cars my entire life. Mine started as tendonitis in my 20’s. Like a dumbass i just dealt with the pain. Age 41 the left tendon tore completely from the bone. Now at 57 it needs done again. I think it’s hanging in by a few strands yet. Just had the right side done 2 years ago. It’s finally getting back to a more normal feel.

Good luck terry. My thoughts are with you. Don’t make any plans for a few months.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Thanks for all well wishes. Surgery was almost 3 hrs. Nerve block taking care of pain for now, hope it gets me through night. Like Blaine said, depends work you did and for how long. I will try to post updates.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Thanks Don, yes I plan on enjoying my free time. Day 2 after sugery, dressing comes off, and I can shower. Sleeping in a recliner for at least 2 months will not be fun, but did it before.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Congrats on retirement Terry and wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thanks Charlie, can't wait till I can start wrenching on all my projects.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

No shit, you're in findlay? I never knew.

I was just thinking of my brother, he's just finishing up studies to be a physical therapist, and is a great resource on how to ensure good recovery after things like... rotator cuff surgery. And he's been sortof probono helping out some friends while he gets experience, his clinicals start later this month.

But the funny thing is, guess where he's at?

Findlay, OH.

Yes, in Findlay about 10 years now. Where is he doing his clinicals? He look me up if he wants to. Small world. I would ask him about the terrible muscle spasms when TRYING to sleep.

Make sure you keep your minerals up, Terry! Calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Right on, don.

I did, he said the same, potassium - eat some bananas

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Looks like I need to buy some bananas.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Or some freesh avaca doos

I personally hate bananas. Worst food ever.

But, they are cheaper than avacados. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hate avacados, bananas for the WIN!

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Spasms getting better now. I have my first therapy on Thursday.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

Had my 1st pt on thursday. Started out with some simple exercises. They were very impressed with my rang of motion, hope I can keep it up. The harder stuff will be coming in couple more weeks, with lots of pain I'm sure.

Re: What a way to start retirement !

That’s promising.

Keep eating those bananas. And lots of Vit C. When I had eye surgery, I had to supplement tons of Vit C for a whole year. Apparently, it is vital for proper healing. Seems like it should be standard to prescribe it after all surgeries, but it isn’t.

Stay active and follow the rules. Sounds like you are on the path to a great outcome.
