Just in case anyone ever wanted to know something like this, my pilot made it from Aurora, CO (Denver area) to Alamogordo, NM with its damaged engine.
Over 500 miles. 9 hours of driving. Rod knocking anytime I was not going 2,000-2,500 rpm above 55 mph.
That is apparently the butter zone where oil pressure is good and loads balance enough to keep the rod (or crank) seated against the bushings.
I also ran 10w-30 and two bottles of motor honey.
Why? Because the price to have it hauled was more than the engine rebuild kit. It’s going to be a while before I get a chance to do that, but I’ll update how it goes as well.
0 out of 10; would not recommend. Just saying it can be done.
